i know this is my first post.. but ive been here a while.. and all i can say is power trip.. i myself have a 98 honda civic.. and i to dont go around and try to act all hard like im the king of the road.. i give the respect when needed and put them down when called for.. but if u want to really think about it.. i myself enjoy tearing down and putting together a motor like the next guy regardless of what inters big block, small block, bseries, dseries, the list can go on.. and frankly im so sick of hearing people day in and day out go on and on and on about their muscle.. but like i said .. if it can run mad respect.. but on another not. from like a the 6th of 7th post on this topic.. i can go out and buy a 2k$ civic dx, put 6 grand into it.. and still make it as fast if not faster then a brand new mustang gt, camaro, blah blah blah,, but what u fail to realize is the other side to the imports, its just not civics and mitsu's .. ur missing out on the supras, tt's, 300zs.. and one more point to make before u want to start pickin the post apart.. dont forget that ur nice muscle cars get riced out beyond beleive as-well.. so dont think the only thing ricing out is an import....

Goatman....you really don't research before you talk do you? Feast your ignorant brain on this....

Here are a couple more facts as featured in Car and Driver magazine (John Phillips column titled "Drag Racing: It's like Plunging your toilet with a claymore mine" in Aug 2002 issue):

Bear in mind these facts pertain to a funny car, not a top fuel dragster. (note, A Top Fuel dragster produces more power)

-A nitro burning V-8 expends 400 of it's 7000 hp just to drive the supercharger. The equivalent of a Corvette Z06 engine just to spin the blower. (This is what the Dodge website says, "Ah, the 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum® V8. This engine generates up to 345 horsepower at 5,400 RPM and 375 pounds-feet of torque at 4,200 RPM"
-At "the hit", with the car's clutch at maximum slippage, 4500 of those horses will be dissipated as heat alone.
-It takes 30 hp just to spin each fuel pump, with each pump flowing as much as 1.2 gallons per second at 530 psi.
-For every 15 seconds a funny car idles, the fuel load dwindles by a gallon at the nose. Idle too long and you'll throw weight shift out of whack.
-One brief burnout, followed by a 4.73 sec pass, will consume 15 gallons of nitro, at $15.75 per. But the average pass costs $2000 a second.
-At launch, the car pulls 5.0g of acceleration, holds 4.0g for 2.5 to 3.0 sec, then pulls 4.0 negative g when the chutes blast open. This caused racer Joe Amato to retire from racing when he couldn't keep his retinas attached.
-From rest, the car achieves 100 mph in 1.2 sec, and does so in just 100 ft, or four times it's own length. At half track, or 660 ft, the car hits 260 mph

Please also note, that there are no dynos in existence that can measure even half of the power of a true drag car. All horsepower figures are theoretical. Well...to be totally exact, even dynos can't measure horsepower itself. Horsepower can't be directly measured. Dynos measure torque and then use a formula to determine horsepower. But anyway...ya'll didn't want to know that did ya?

Now, please....if you're going to say the stuff I say is bullshit, do your homework before you talk....

Tein,
Not only the supras...but also the Mercedes, Ferraris, Porsches, and BMW's....yes...people do trick out these expensive cars too....but that's not the point of the initial post....I think Goatman, when he posted this thread...misued his words and said imports, when I think he meant your stereotypical civics, altimas, and galants...But who am I to say what he meant.

I think there are two seperate arguments going on in this thread because people don't know the exact definition of "ricer" since there are a couple different theories....

One argument: that ricing is making your car faster than it was stock
Second argument: that ricing is making your car look/sound faster when in fact it never will be....

The truth of the matter is that classic muscle cars are definitly true to the bone "cars" And for as much as i love classic camaros....automotive technology in the past 40 years has developed cars that are faster, quicker, lighter, better handling, better feeling, and safer. So it's no wonder why people would take these newer cars and make them faster/racier.

Anyway, i'm getting confused with where this argument is really trying to go....

oh and by the way...copy and pasting something from a website u found does not make u know what ur talking about either...

Goatman...you find WHAT really hard to believe? For cryin out loud!! CAR AND DRIVER spelled it out for you in black and white...why can't you just suck it up...admit you were wrong, and believe it? Or that's right...you don't believe anything unless your dad or uncle say it's true.....So go look up that issue of Car and Driver and read it for yourself....

"oh and by the way...copy and pasting something from a website u found does not make u know what ur talking about either... "

That has to be the worst argument/statement I've heard of in a long time....you definitly weren't part of the debate club in grade school were you? C'mon, just re-read what you just said and think about how the human brain learns new things...

I had to take the time and look for the answer to a question I had about the performance capabilities of top fuel dragsters (something I didn't know until a couple of years ago). (This is how the human brain learns...y'no...by reading and researching...but for you I guess listening to your uncle is the only way)
So copying/pasting something that I researched and found to be the truth...in itself...doesn't make me "know what i'm talking about"....on the contrary...it makes the editor of CAR AND DRIVER magazine know what he's talking about.....Therefore...in turn, making you completely and absolutely wrong.

If you think I'm an asshole for calling you ignorant...then you ought to look up the definition of the term.... because you obviously DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING on the subject and therefore were CLUELESS about the performance capabilities of top fuel dragsters....(i.e...which is the definition of IGNORANT!)

I as sure as I am breathing I promise to you all that I saw a racing lawnmower school a firebird in the quarter... it was just wrong. Those are some fast little bastards. So... are you really into tuned lawnmowers now? I much prefer a big grumbly muscle car, but I'm not into putting the gas into them... The only advantage I see with mini-imports is the mpg.

I built a lawn mower with a Chevy small block once at school.

@ GoatMan sorry I was thinking of the cobra when I said that but compared to some of the la mans racers the GT went up against it was a brick (but with the power to make it win).

and I own
A 1986 944 turbo
a 1990 944 S2 cab
A 1984 Jag XJ6 VDP
A 1982 GMC 2500
A 1970 Chevy Nova
And a few other cars

I love anything with wheels and a motor. I got into Muscle cars when I was younger, but now drive and love Imports. When people think of imports they automatically think of a Honda Civic. But there are a lot of Imports out there that will hold there own against American muscle. The Toyota Supra is a great example, inline six, twin turbo, six speed and can be modded to put down 1000+ HP. Mind you that is not very streetable. I personally drive a 03 Honda S2000 and love every minute behind the wheel. I really wish the import and domestic world could play nice with each other, but it will never happen. To each there own I guess.

i'm not the biggest fan of ricers, i mean i would definately never own one, but i can't get enough of need for speed underground 2 for ps2, lol.

Well, I think that the best argument until now was given by hockyis1, but goatman just can`t accept that Ford GT can never be at the level of a Mercedes SLR

Hockyis1, you`re the man! When I need to know something about cars I`ll look for you.

Myself I like American cars best cause I dont like to support other countries over my own and they get more horsepower. I have a chevy pickup and parts are also a dime a dozen makes it nice. I found a supercharger on ebay for $700 and it doesnt take 400 hp to run. I do although like cars from Germany and Italy just really hate almost every stupid japanese car. Anybody gonna get a supercharger that needs 400 hp to run sign me up. lol.

I am still happy and will gloat for life that my 84 chevy pickup beat a honda civic Si in a race what pieces of trash.

footballbob06 the 400 hp turbo was for the dragsters not for ricers

You know i used to own a civic and it was really kinda fun to rag on it so much but when i traded it in for my Wolfsburg jetta it was the best move i could have made at the time, German cars are so finely tuned its amazing

I can't stand the damn things. The most pretentious vehicles on the road have to be Lexuses with gold trim, or Infinitis. If you're going to get a luxury vehicle, get a Cadillac CTS with the 5-speed transmission.

At least at antique/classic car shows, you don't see those fool things. I should know: I own a 1940 LaSalle series 5019 sedan. (Funny sidebar concerning imports: parked my LaSalle next to a Cooper Mini not long ago, and you talk about a contrast in size....I think I could've put the Mini in the LaSalle's back seat with room left over. I can't imagine having a Mini parked next to a Cadillac V-16.)

I have been keeping up with this thread for awhile now and have read most of the pages but not all. Alot of these people seem to be a bit racist, but thats a different issue I won't get into. You can all bash the Civic but ITS NOT SUPPOSED to be a sports car (06 concept excluded). Sure kids "pimp them out" but kids do the same to Cavilers and Escorts. All are econo cars that some kids think intake/exhaust and ugly-ass exterior mods will make quick. People will do stupid things to any car and this has nothing to do with where the car is made (The idea of buying domestic to support your country's economy holds no water because Honda of America is an American company).
I have an Acura RSX Type-S and it can run <99 Mustang GT's stock and only cost me 22k, is "nicer" than most domestics, handles better, and has other pros. As far as domestics go you can take your 30K and buy a 2005 Mustang GT and have a quick car in a straight line. I will take that same money and buy a Subaru STi and beat it in a straight line and crush it in the twisties. Dollar for dollar you can't beat an import with a domestic in overall quality/performance (please don't bring up the Neon SRT-4 I don't want to get into it). I stuck with new cars because it keeps the discusion simpler .

I could say more but I wanted to keep it short

*edited* Go look at a Cadillac and an Infenity, Acura, Lexus, etc, (similarly priced) with an open mind and tell me which is classier
