I don't know about you vanillathrilla, but I always buy cars from companies that sell crappy models -now-, but had their heyday back when my parents were 16.
I mean, come-fucking-on, every car maker has hit the nail on the head at one point in time. That's not a fucking reason to laude their achievement for the rest of time. What the hell is ford doing now except de-tuning their engines to keep their accounting group happy?

And all there is to say to this discussion is: FERRARI..............(

The only good car coming from the U.S. is the BMW X5 (and that design is 100% german)...it's a fact american manufacturers only make cars for people who don't give a fuck about fuel consumption and looks, it just has to be BIG, BIGGER,etc...that just sucks.
They will never get a strong foot in europe and asia with that concept, but then again american people are so arrogant that they just don't care if they are missing out on great provites from foreign markets. I like to say : Let america fight wars and let europe built cars.

as for the best engine EVER made was american engineered, one of the best selling engines ever the 350 small block chevy
incredible tuner, cheap aftermarket parts, they will run forever, there light and very reliable.....i mean no one has ever made an engine like the 350 u take a look at ferraris and lambos (yuck) and talk about how fast they are, this and that...but half the time there not even running, and performance wise u cant go past stock
just my opinion but the americans know and can build cars....period
vanillathrilla9 20 years ago

Oh, I hate to jump in, but what the hell are you talking about?
And I think the point was that the pushrod dinosaurs they were running in the '90s 'Stangs were pathetic. They were outmuscled and outrun by the OHC Duratecs that Ford dumped into the Contours, which they then had to de-tune in order to protect the Mustang sales legacy.
That's the point of all this, in my opinion. Detuning = bad. Unfortunately, Big Three = Detuning.
You're bordering on moronic if you think the SBC was a masterpiece. It was a tank, and there's a big difference. There was nothing elegant in it's design, but it's so damned thick you can boost it to your heart's content. And there were so many left over from the junkyards with a measly 50k on the block (due mostly in part to the overly weak suspension that would eat shit in a fender-bender) that you used to be able to get your hands on one for prep fairly easily.
And I don't get the "...they're never running half the time..." comment about purpose-built supercars. Where are you getting that? Stop pulling shit out of your ass. The supercars beat any production car hands-down. Anywhere, anytime. They're priced accordingly. I wouldn't even consider them as an arguement, becuase they're not a practical choice for evaluation. They exist in a realm (not plagued by breakdowns, as you seem to think) where they enjoy more track time than street time.

Heh, yes...this seems to be the thread that won't die... Either way, as long as it stays pretty clean (as in a stick closer to a debate style rather than outright bashing each other) this thread will be fine.
Remember, the discussion stays along the lines of car compared to car, motor compared to motor, etc. Not member bashing member...
We're all motor heads here!

first off i meant those stangs pushed a lot of horse for what they looked like! (piles of shit),secondly they are insane tuners which u see all over the place, easily doing 10 seconds or less(owners who dont play around).....im not a ford dick rider, i honestly dont like them a whole lot....your claiming the SBC is a piece of shit, u honestly have no respect whatsoever pal id radther tune that block than a piece of shit 2 litre car with rods smaller than your dick
ferraris and lamborginis will last yes, but not nearly as long as a $20k pile of crap u get from a dealer, they break and quite easily to add that....."its a 200 hundred thousand dollar car and it wont even start!?"-Lloyd Banks, and "The supercars beat any production car hands-down", gt40 = lamborghini killer....not to mention the new z06
