This really is the thread that will not die.

In any event, there seems to be a push back to muscle. BHP is on the rise these days in case anyone has failed to notice. There are quite a few production cars which will hang in there with even modified cars of old due to changes in technology. It is a beautiful thing to see.

What I'm not so sure about is whether it will last given the price of oil. My guess is that a lot of projects will be shelved pending a drop in oil prices. I hope not but we shall see.

Ok, ok. First off, my apologies for implying you're a moron in any way - it was out of line.

Next, I'm not one to call a car fast, powerful, amazing based on it's looks. I've seen pictures of that Civic SI that they ripped the interior out and made it look like one of those old enclosed video games. Trust me, nothing makes me more nauseous than a gearhead running a near-stock 2L with a 6" tach sitting on his dash. No one needs that stuff on a daily driver or really, any streetable car.

Given that, the foxbody was not really hot shit when it came out, and it's not hot stuff now (except for the 5.0L engine that it implies). I should state at this time that my bias is for all-around performers. Straight lines are for sissy drivers. Turn at the end of that 1/4 mile sprint and I have more respect for you. Mustangs are -horrible- road racers.

The SBC wasn't a piece of shit, but it wasn't anything special either. I've seen some amazing engines, hence the comment about the insane amounts of supercharching I've seen them take. But it wasn't a technological masterpiece that you implied it was. The design lacked elegance, has an NA volumetric efficiency of about 30% and wasted energy. That's not a good engine. But it was big - coming in any size you want from 283 cu in to 400 cu in.

Just for comparison's sake, that's a 6.6L engine (at 400 cu in). Take any z06 with it's 6.0L and put it next to the NA SBC of your choice and see why the SBC is not god's gift to automotive engineering. But it's cheap! (or was, less so now) Which is why it's popular.

Contrary to Chevy's popular opinion, by the way, the z06 is in no way a lambo killer. It's not even a Porche killer, which is technically another production car. Throw out stats all you want, there's no way an all-around competition would go to the z06. Or the GT40, in my opinion (and the GT40 isn't considered a production car as of yet - the runs are too small to qualify).

If I had my choice of any car to tune right now it would be one of two: GT3k VR4 or an M3. The first if I had to buy it, the second if money wasn't really an object. This is just -my- opinion, but I think the older american car bodies were stupidly large and their chassis are vastly inferior compared to today's standards.

z06 is a 7 litre....426 cubic inch, ur a different car guy then me.....u like racing around the track, im all about a straight line and in a straight line the z06 is a lambo killer like it or not....and at the fraction of the price is just amazing!
yea the small block chevy was popular cause its cheap, and great to mod for horsepower! obviously its outdated but almost anyone wanting to drag would take that outdated push rod over the OHC out nowadays...the z06 is also pushrod, look at the amount of horsepower its pushing! 0-60 in under 4 seconds is plane nuts

U telling me that if a stock Z06, lines up against a stock Murcielago. The Z06 would win ?

I think not. For one The Murciealago would jump it off the line, due to 4wd, and then it would get thumped, die to more power being put down by the Lambo

dont recall saying that a z06 is a lambo killer....if so my opologies i meant the gt40....and for the amount of money u pay for the z06 u could modify it with enough money u saved from not buying the ferrari u could easily be doing 9 seconds on the track
