Abstinence works...100%. once you perform the act, you are no longer abstaining. i am sure that abstinence education works, for some, but not for all. very much like any education, you either get it, or you don't. none of this has anything at all to do with the issues and integrity of Mrs. Palin. and as far as her "not being experienced enough to hold the Chief Executive" position of this great nation, she isn't running for that position. and John McCain seems very much alive to me. Old, but alive. just wanted to add my $.02.

No, actually she is. Like the backup Quarterback of a football team, the expectation of the job is being able to step in and run the team, possibly through the season, if needed. Vice-President is the backup Chief Executive. The issue with her level of experience is whether or not we should assume she could do that effectively.
And abstinence doesn't work. Read the Bible.

Nonsense, Obama has no quarterbacking experience, and you'd have him running the team, but get this overwhelming feeling of impending doom because another team's backup "only" has similar capabilities as "your" starter.
Did you vote for Dukakis, or Bush in '88? Silly, silly arguments, and you still didn't watch her speech, did you?

In China they collect 800 billion and don't. They also have 5 times as many people.
I think 1.4 trillion should be enough money to run our government. More than enough.
AMEN!! I have been advocating the flat or sales tax for years. Hell, that's one of the reason I like McCain. He's already said he'll have Steve Forbes on his Cabinet. Forbes has been pushing for a flat tax for years. I still have no idea who I'll vote for though.
And Windy, where's that video?

So far I think she's a good choice. Perhaps naive since she accepted this during a critical moment of her daughters life. Thats my only disagreement that I've found with her. If I were a father and my 17 year old daughter was pregnant, I wouldn't be accepting nominations for vice president no matter how appealing. So far I think she's a good candidate. She balances out McCain where he comes across. People say he's old, well Palin is young. McCain is male, well Palin is female. McCain is a wealthy man. Palin is not so much, being more of a middle class "American Dream" type lifestyle. I think that with her new role she'll bring things to the table that have been pretty well ignored by congress and the government in general. She's from a small area. I live in Washington so perhaps her in the White House will help the Pacific Northwest's voice be heard. The fact that she's a part of the NRA shows that she supports the Constitution and the Right to Bear Arms. Maybe I'm sounding conservative sure but I prefer the term progressive. I think that our constitution clearly states what the rules are, and we're breaking those rules. Hopefully Palin, and McCain and Obama, realize this and correct it. For too long we, as a country, have been wronged of our rights. The suggested ban on any guns in Washington D.C. is a shocking thing for me to hear about. No matter how many people die, its our right to have them. Its our right to speak and make our voices heard. Our rights need to be recovered. And everyone, including those of us on this forum, need to make sure that we do all we can to keep our rights. Otherwise things like this forum and others will simply vanish. And I know you all don't want to loose great free porn...

I suggest that religion is the cause of wars. EX: The Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, War in Iraq GG

If you read the argument the donkey before said she wasn't campaigning to be President, but rather Vice-President. That misses the point of the office. Pay attention you old bastard

Well from an english perspecive, the whole thing is set up for an Obama win, the politics over there is as bad as it is here, a show case for rich people. Nah to be fare It is a lot fucking worse over in the US of corrupt A.

I agree with the World Series thing. We love to throw around world champion in leagues with no foreign teams. I've always wondered about that.

You forgot about the Toronto Blue Jays..even if they are a token team.

Try to stay at least a little on topic guys.
Start a new thread if you want to debate whether or not the US is arrogant for calling their baseball championship the World Series.

Looks like the argument that she proposes abstinence only education is wrong.
http://www.latimes.com/news/education/la-na-sexed6-2008sep06,0,1923582.story
In a widely quoted 2006 survey she answered during her gubernatorial campaign, Palin said she supported abstinence-until-marriage programs. But weeks later, she proclaimed herself "pro-contraception" and said condoms ought to be discussed in schools alongside abstinence.
"I'm pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues," she said during a debate in Juneau.

Good read. Thanks, Rock.
Personally, I think it irresponsible to ONLY discuss abstinence. Although some mat choose that route, the ones who do not are left without information that could keep them from becoming another "Teen Pregnancy statistic" or "STD case." It should all be covered.
Even parents that try to teach their kids to be abstinent until marriage don't want their kids that DON'T ALWAYS LISTEN to be left uninformed and vulnerable, I think.

So, wonder what made her change her position?
Information being available on any subject is more important than just telling someone, no, you shouldn't do that...
Hope she doesn't change her mind on this again...

I don't think it was a change in mind as much as the first answer not being complete or answering what she thought was a different question. The original survey and answer were:
Survey: Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
Palin: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.
I don't support explicit sex ed either, but I do support sex ed including contraceptive education. The difference is I see explicit sex ed as the kind that delves into all of the different aspects of different sexual behaviors and instructions on how they are done and advocating trying them. If anyone doubts that happens, I can assure you that sex ed like that does happen in the US at the high school and above level. I do not support giving away contraceptives at school as I believe it does lead them to believe that the school condones it while their parents wouldn't.

I can see how the answer could have been taken out of context, until I reread it I thought it meant sex education, period, and I don't really know anything about the "explicit" sex education...
