Lesson III - Mid-flowering Varietals

Alrighty then, moving a little farther into the wilds, we discover flowers of a more ornate nature. These flowers possess petals which protrude slightly from their outer covering, and fall within the mid-range of petal variety. While these specimens are somewhat more accommodating of adornment by metalic accessories than their smaller cousins, our focus today shall be upon the unaltered, natural variety. Many culturalists find the protruding petals of these varietals to be quite pleasing, and greatly enjoy the ease with which they lend themselves to nibbling, without obscuring the view of the tender flesh within the center of the flower. While low in nutritional value, there is something uniquely pleasurable about tasting the petals of these gems, to both the gardener, and typically, the flower as well. Due to their constant exposure, these specimens are often quite fond of, and respond favorably to more aggressive handling than those flowers that rarely come out of hiding. Generally speaking, this variety is a bit more bold in every aspect of it's culture, but as is true with every Labia flower, general rules are impossible to apply to any one species as a whole. It is always best to remember that each flower is different, and even flowers of direct genetic relation will often respond to the gardener's care methods with drastic variation. To carry these irregularities in response even farther, what works well for the gardener one day, may result in a complete retreat of the same flower a just day later. In rare cases, response characteristics to specific stimuli may change within minutes. Exercise great care.

Now on to the study....

In the professor's opinion, this is an exquisite example in both coloration and texture.

When properly attended to, like all varietals, it is often willing to assist the gardener in tending to it's needs.

Even those accustomed to outdoor light, respond positively to indoor pruning, particularly when receptive to reproduction exercises.

An excellent representation of the sub-species, in all respects. You may note in this example that the specimen appears receptive to handling, as indicated by the small droplet of juice at its base.

Another fine example of the trimming technique used to please a larger portion of gardening public, leaving a hint of nature's bounty, while exposing the beauty of the flesh beneath.

Here you can see that even in a closed position, peaks of petals are clearly visible.
