A very misleading statement. But unsurprising. The total count on signatures to the petition is 660,000 to 700,000. That is 0.002% of the total population. The only reason this is showing up in the news is because they are feeding the fire with the right-wing media. You could easily find 700,000 people that wanted out with George Bush.

Its actually 0.2%

But everything else I agree with.

**EDIT**

Damn you WBW slow ass servers.

on a personal note, during obama's presidency, i've had one friend who commited suicide and 4 friends who've had their homes foreclosed (i'll be the 5th on Nov. 28) due to obama's dismal handling of the U.S. economy.

Very sorry to hear that Az.

EL's pretty correct in this statement, but any blame on Bush needs to focus on his failure to stop the policies on home lending put in place by clinton. The housing collapse has been a long time coming. I knew it was going to happen back in '03 or '04. I didn't think it would be as bad as it was though.

These low interest rates are worthless if the banks aren't loaning money. Even trying to refinance is hard due to property value loss. Need 20% down for the good rates, and a lot of homes have lost that much or more in value. It's kinda like "If I had 20$ down, I wouldn't need the F'n loan in the first place".

Best of luck recovering from this personal difficulty.

I'll bet you $-1,000.

Also yes, I noticed my mistake, thank you for pointing it out Dros / SP.

Hey, you win, and I'll buy anywhere within an hr driving distance of your home. Honestly, we'd probably understand each other a little better afterward.

(are there really places you could spend 1000 bucks on lunch?)

I'd like to reserve the chance that they put Michelle up for election as an equal to BHO running again himself, to count for the win on my side of the bet.

I have to agree with SP, here. Things will always, always go wrong in one aspect or another if some places blame on another for their life situation(s). I am sorry that dude is losing his home, however. Even so, Obama only put ideas out there in the form of bills/laws. U.S. citizens voted or did not vote on those ideas. People are just going to have to look at hardships as challenges to overcome. No blame can rightfully be placed on someone else, though. That's what I've spent my time learning, most of my life.

It will go nowhere. In Canada Quebec has been threatening to separate from the rest of Canada for decades. When push comes to shove, they know damn well that things will be much much worse on their own than it would be as part of an already established country.

...
I'm sorry that you lost a friend, but Obama being president had nothing to do with it. People who take their own lives do so because they can't deal with their emotions.

I'm also sorry that you're loosing your home, I can't imagine being in your situation. However, I'm not sure how you can blame a president (Obama or anyone) for you losing your home. You can say that its because you lost a job, or interest rates went to high, but to blame a single man, who has no direct control over the situation is ridiculous. Were there mistakes made in the US housing crisis? Absolutely yes, was President Obama solely responsible for those mistakes? Absolutely no.

last i saw, 40 states have started petitions to secede from the Union since obama's re-election. unprecedented in American history. while most may not amount to much, it is a sign of how obama's policies & programs have divided our country.

on a personal note, during obama's presidency, i've had one friend who commited suicide and 4 friends who've had their homes foreclosed (i'll be the 5th on Nov. 28) due to obama's dismal handling of the U.S. economy.

being in europe, only hearing your skewed european news, you have no idea of what real life has been like for regular working people here in the U.S. during obama.

Az

Let me start with i am sorry for your loss. And i do appreciate that things arent easy in the states and naturally i dont have as much insight since i dont live there.

But let me get a few things straight: ive been to america numerous times and have seen various states. I love america for its people and i do think its one of the most beautiful and diverse places on earth. But do not underestimate or judge europeans, especially not our news! The ongoing financial crisis is GLOBAL and sure enough we are effected too. Lets not forget which country (and administration!!!) started this whole thing!

It is a shame and i di feel very very sorry for people loosing their homes and so on, but really wasnt it all predictable?!? Should banks give money to buyers who really cant afford to buy? In germany banking and especially mortgage policies are much stricter and we seem to be less f#*ed than you lot from a financial point of view.

And in regards to media: as i said, i do love the states, but i have NEVER witnessed worse, more influenced and one-sided media than the american one...

Last but not least: from an outsiders point of view i think obama has achieved a ton considering he had to constantly fight the republicans opposition to his bills. Health care, dont ask dont tell, gm, america not being bankrupt, osama,... Ring some bells? Thats just to name a few. And no administration, regardless of which political party, would have been able to turn a global crisis into sucess......

"The people who cast the votes don't decide an election,
the people who count the votes do."

- Joseph Stalin

Rings kind of loud for some of the vote counts reported out of Cleveland, Philadelphia and some instances in FL where all the absentee ballots were discarded. Will be interesting to see where investigations go. It is hard to believe there could be a single precinct where any of the 2 major party candidates would not receive a single vote, let alone multiple precincts.

40 States starting on-line petitions might be unprecedented, but the Internet is still relatively new and petitions are popular for all kinds of things. All that anyone can glean from "40 states started petitions to secede" is that the Internet is more accessible than in past elections, and that people are incredibly stupid in 40 states - which is good because Alabama and Texas were probably tired of being the only punchlines to any joke involving a state.

PS: I signed Texas' petition. I did include a condition that they have to take Alabama with them though.
