i am not from the US so there is probably a lot behind the idea and culture of affirmative action that escapes my knowledge.
However, I do believe it is there for a reason: to help minorities not becuase they are different but because they are discriminated and therefore on a more "fragile" position on the social network.
Having read all your opinions on this thread I am pretty sure that giving the chance of hring a gay worker or a WASP you would choose the WASP. Since [unfortunately] a lot of people still think like you do, gay people have less chance of getting hired. That is where the government stepped up and did a good thing by adjusting the chance that people like you sistematically choose majorities over minorities.

Where I live, Argentina, the gov. has a plan that gives 150AR$ to families in need. According to your logic, I should complain that the poors get that money and I dont. It doesnt matter that I can afford to spend that much money on one night out with my friends, it doesn't matter that sometimes those 150AR$ is the only income these families have, according to you they are being treated as special as that is wrong.

are there gay clubs??? can I get in? How about the Gay lesbian and transgener alliances? You get to be a part of the Diversity initiative, I have been at 3 jobs that have openly said we want to hire and promote more minorities and gay people? How about your gay commuinities, like SF or Provincetown, do I have a town or community that says this is a "straight white town". Those are just a few benefits that you get and I dont.

and any answer of all your communities are for you, or we are making up for some past BS stuff, are unitelligent BS answers

actually bodukan, just like I said earlier, my last 3 jobs all said we want to hire and promote minorities, woman and gays, so that is actually reverse discrimination, that gives them more opportunity that me.

Honestly ... Yes. The minor tax break individual homosexual couples receive if married is minimal, but when multiplied by the 2% to 5% perceived gay population, the number nationally would not seem minimal. Add social security benefits for older couples who have not reproduced, it becomes impossible for tax payers to cover that.

The current tax and social security laws were not written with same-sex marrriage in mind. A bunch of statistics people just bunched in gays with the estimated single for life crowd. They weren't expected to come out of the closet, let alone marry each other during the 1930's.

Sure there are gay clubs, that doesn't mean that they are only for gays. Are there straight clubs? are they only for staights? GLBT alliances sure...perhaps we should get rid of the Salvation Army and WYCA/YMCA while were at it too? So because a company says that they want to hire minorities and gays, does that mean that they are going to stop hiring white straight males? SF is a fucking city...you are free to go whereever you choose, it just happen that some areas are safe for gays, so they don't have to worry about getting their head bashed in by some homophobic asshole.

Affirmative Action is as much a part of minority culture, as "NASA" is to white culture.

And since I'll have to explain that to you, NASA isn't a cultural aspect. It's an institution, not a system of beliefs and ideologies.

the point sugar pie, is are all the gays willing to give up everything that seperates them to be equal. You cant say we want to be equal, but keep all our gay culture and privilages too, that is getting the best of both worlds, and you would then be more than equal.

I dont think most would be willing to give that stuff up and be "Truely" equal, I think most just want to select the best benefits that they dont have, but want to keep the ones that they do, which is being "selectively" equal, which is not equal.

I don't know the answer to your question..nobody does...maybe, maybe not. The point is, all of those groups, all of the culture you speak of were created to get our point or our cause noticed. If we truely were equal to begin with...none of this stuff would have existed in the first place.
