That was a long ass question, I'll do my best to answer it.
Its a job, and just like I'd say most jobs, you probably wouldn't do something out of your comfort zone for a few more extra dollars. For example, you probably wouldn't get a job as a high rise window washer if you were afraid of heights, even if it paid a lot better than your current job. I don't do anything on cam that I'm not 100% comfortable with. As for my personal sex life, I don't think its effected it at all.
I think if you want to be successful, you have to let the real your be on cam, or you have to be a damn good actress. The one I work for is based out of the United States, very legit, good technical support. You don't even have to get naked if you don't want, there are a few girls that do very well staying completely clothed, and others that do even better just being topless. Regardless if you get naked or not, you need to have a good personality and conversation skills.
