My favorite author (or, one of them) writes all his novels in the same universe. Ranging from present day supernatural horror stories, and near-future bio-terrorism action thrillers, to post-apocalytic young adult zombie series.

I'm halfway through my 12th book of his. And he incorporates or cameos characters from his other novels. Which is one of the reasons why I love his books, it's like "Oh shit! That's the forensic guy that showed up for the final chapter in the end of his first trilogy, and he's now the head forensic guy in this one!" and such.

But, in this book: A character is looking at trading cards of zombie hunters, "Quick-Draw Carl, who still wore the broad-brimmed brown hat of his legendary dad, Sheriff Rick." He just threw in some Walking Dead.

Which is sweetness.

I always get really fucking sad when I finish a series and everyone ends up happy. You can't just walk away from the bad things and killing you've seen, done, or experienced. That's not what life is. Not everyone gets to be happy and loved. It's bullshit.

That being said, you all need to read A.J. Quinnell's 5-book series about Marcus Creasy. Starting with "Man on Fire" and ending with "Message from Hell." Those are some good, solidly exciting and thoroughly heart-breaking reads. Amazing fucking series. Perhaps my favorite.

Side note: I need a new thing to read, so suggestions are welcome. But now I also kinda want to start "Man on Fire" again.
