lol no, Amazon is notoriously awful. I assume that's what that video is about?

I'm working at a sports bar/wings place on the suggestion of my sister, who knows someone who works there. Like 20-24 hrs a week can supposedly net you like 600-800 bucks, which would be like 3 weeks at UPS.

Bartending? It's quick cash even in a low key place you can do alright on tips. Servers though I doubt make $800/week unless it's a high end sports bar type place. I have friends in the service industry that make much more money three days a week than I do working five. The hours can be a bit brutal though.

Bartending/serving. Depending on schedules or whatever.

The number I quoted was from my sister's friend, which isn't an exact match because she's apparently really hot and so she has that cheat code working for her since it's a majority male clientele there, and gets mostly the busy shifts.

But either way, it's going to be more money for less work that those stupid package trucks, and that's all I'm really looking for.

I've still got a desktop thats going on 10 years old and it works like the day I brought it home. So while the initial cost is more expensive, It'd be interesting to see to the total cost of ownership per year.

I keep hearing that when talking about apple but it's no longer true since windows XP... I have a PC and never got a major problem for a very long time now too.

That's the way to go (unless you really like your job).

Yeah that video is about the working conditions inside an Amazon shipping facility in the UK. Pretty brutal, guy had to walk/run up to 11 miles in a 10.5 hour shift while trying to achieve unrealistic targets. They basically get 2 sick days every 90 days...miss a 3rd day and its automatic termination. Zero job security; a facility like that normally employs about 2500 people, but during christmas it swells to 10,000 or more....when the rush is over, they re-evaluate their entire staff and offer the 2500 permanent job to the most efficient workers during christmas.

Congrats on the new job....yeah, if you're a good server...quick, accurate, out going (but not too outgoing), then you'll do well. However, in a sports bar, you may want to consider getting breast implants to really make bank.

Just curious what you consider a major problem? When I say zero problems...I mean literally zero....I can't even remember the last time an app froze or became unresponsive.

Well that depends on what you do on your computer and what programs you use.
I had unresponsive programs or crashes but it's mainly games (that are known to have issues when they come out). But with basic programs, no problem at all really. Just had a faulty graphic card (but from what I read it was a construction fault) and I only had to replace it, not the whole PC.

Thats cool. Glad to hear that windows is getting more stable....although I thought windows 7 was awful? As for the build quality, I guess that really doesn't have anything to do with microsoft though. A friend of mine bought an acer laptop a few years ago, and granted she paid less than half of my macbook, her laptop after about a year of use was just a paperweight.

Yeah, I our local paper ran an exposé on the warehouse they have located near here. They don't have adequate HVAC stuff, so during the summer they would just have ambulances parked outside because it was cheaper to cart the employees with heat stroke away than it was to cool the entire warehouse 24/7. Awful pay, hours, no leniency, etc. Same shit.

The ten miles thing though, isn't really a big deal. I wear a pedometer as a fun way go gauge how many steps I've taken each day, and on days I would work at the UPS place I would have about 20,000 steps a day, which translates to roughly 10 miles a day. On days I don't work I average between like 7000-9000. And if I'm really lazy watching TV and internetting all day 2500 or so, but that's shitty.

Either way, I STOOD IN THE BACK OF A 53-FOOT LONG TRAILER AND WALKED 5-7 MILES IN IT, while loading boxes, rolled up carpets, bags, tires, and whatever other junk they were shipping that day into it.

Win7 has been quite good for me. Just about never crashes, has lots of functionality, and this was the first time I've had to do a fresh install since I bought it in December of '09. All while having fairly lax security features over here (which I've now reluctantly changed).

Windows vista was awful not seven which is the best windows OS for now in my opinion. Basically with windows, you want to skip one OS each time (win95 was crap, win98 was ok, win2000/millenium were crap, winXP was ok, win vista was crap, win 7 is ok, win 8 is questionable ^^).

I have a laptop for almost 10 years now and except the fact I got too lazy to upgrade it to win 7, it stills works fine

Yeah, the 11 miles didn't sound like a HUGE deal to me either, until he said that was every single shift...and that he wasn't meeting his targets. If he'd met his targets, it would be more like 13-14 miles a day....every day, and lets not forget, this is only at work...he still has an outside life that will add to those 11 miles. This guy was I'd say in better than average health and fitness level, and he was getting blisters, and admitted it was the toughest job he'd ever done.

Windows 8 is just really weird and a big departure from everything I've spent the last 15 years learning.

Well, not everything, but it's really different.

Thats right....it was Vista. So one factor that makes Macs cheaper to operate on a daily basis (forgetting the initial purchase price) is that you don't have to buy virus software, and upgrades from one OS to the next are free.

Oh, yeah, well the UPS thing was unquestionably the hardest job I've ever done. As weird as it sounds, I actually sort of liked the physicality of it, but not for that pay level and it's not something I wanted to do without adequate health insurance. There weren't many overweight people working there, that's for sure. It's just not a job you can do if you're not in at least average physical condition.

As I've said before, somewhere in the Software forum—which if the search worked I could find—Microsoft has a noticeable pattern for Windows releases.

Windows 3.1 -- SHIT
Windows 95 -- Good
Windows 98 -- SHIT
Windows XP -- Good
Windows Vista -- SHIT
Windows 7 -- Good
Windows 8.X -- MOBILE UI SHIT

What is really funny is that the *nix crowd figured out that mobile UI for desktop machines was a terrible idea. They even coined a term for it back in like 1988, they called it Gorilla Arm. The idea of restricting input and interface to a mobile interface is beyond retarded.

Some free antivirus software are as good (and sometimes better) than some paying ones so that's not an argument either.
The OS upgrading could be but if you really don't want to pay for OS then you can go with linux and still get cheaper components from a regular PC (and you won't have to worry about viruses either). Or you could just pay 150€ for a new windows OS since you basically saved 500 to 1000€ for not buying Apple ^^

Gots to disagree !

Here on campus almost everyone has an Apple because of the genius of A. marketing ( those lads are brilliant) and because it is the hip and trendy product. That you have already acknowledged. But as to the virus proof bit ? ROFL. For two reasons. First, if you are a bad guy you are going to go for the largest target market out there....the PC systems. Secondly, now that A. has almost twenty percent ( I am told ) of the personal computer business ( not talking tablets now) the bad guys are hot on the trail.

The Apple users who had copped such an attitude on virus protection were slammed by a virus or three this year and with no relief in sight. Personally I use Toshiba lap tops with Windows 7 for everything and while I do hide behind the skirts of the campus IT virus protection, I have had zero problems

True, and people who are very familiar with computers may use linux, and may swap out components of better quality, and may know which virus software is free and good, but your average computer user doesn't. So thats where over a 7 year life span on a computer a Mac may be just as affordable. $50-$60 per year on anti virus software and lets say they upgrade to a new OS once at $100-$150. In total thats a $450 to $570 savings, which is is probably about the cost difference compared to a similarly built and featured PC....its close anyway.

Are there viruses for Mac....for sure there are. Does any anti virus software guarantee to protect you from everything...no. The difference is that Apple includes anti virus software within their OS, so there is no need to buy and install a 3rd party app. I've never bought 3rd party anti virus software for any of my macs, and I've never gotten a virus. If I were a PC user and never bought anti virus software in 10 years, I doubt I could make the same claim.

And yes, I will agree that Apple are remarkable at marketing themselves, but they don't really market the Mac....in fact...when was the last time you saw a commercial for Mac? I'm sure there have been some lately, but all I can remember is the Mac vs PC guys...and that was YEARS ago. They market other products like iphone and ipad A LOT...and by doing so, they hope there is a trickle down effect from people who had good experiences with their iproducts, eventually upgrading to a new Mac. Also...they have major incentives for students...thats why you see a lot on campus.
