Originally posted by F1098I absolutely loved that map and it made me laugh with it's conclusions and analysis......most of which I totally agree with. The Deep South characterization was particularly on point. "Caste" system doesn't begin to describe the half of it. There was some serious scholarship about ten years ago which profiled the early colonial English settlers of the south - their socioeconomic breakdown etc. and how they differed from the principle English settlers of the North ( New England ) which had an entirely different economic profile and regional origin. Fascinating stuff.

If you could make me one, greatI'd really appreciate it.
Why can't you run anymore if you don't mind me asking?

"I don't understand the author's placing Philadelphia in Midlands instead of Yankeedom.
For, as James Carville famously said, Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and in between it's Alabama"
I had never heard the Carville quote before.
Having never spent time in Pennsylvania, I'm curious as to master Dros' opinion of that statement.

As for the running, I used to be a very avid runner, have done a few full marathons and several halfs. I broke one of the metatarsal bones in my foot a couple years ago, let it heal properly, didn't push myself, consulted my doctor about running again, took things very slowly to start, and 14 months after breaking it the first time, I broke it again. Now it hurts a little most days, and after running for just a few minutes it hurts a lot. more running for me. Its been awful trying to adjust to it...running used to be my thing.
