[DEV] Upcoming tagsystem!

For a while now I have been working on a tag system and I could use some input on how to get this working with WBW.

What are tags?
Tags are words that describe an object, in this case a movie or picture.

Why should we use tags?
The database of WBW is very big and is nearly impossible to find where you are looking for. If we tag these images/movies with words that describe the content of them it will make it very easy to search for what you are looking. For example you are looking for "blond, beach, skinny", you will get all the images/movies containing these criteria.

The current wbw database hasn't been tagged, how are you going to do this?
There are multiple idea I have on this subject.
1. A game that put 2 users head to head and have to describe as many words the picture, if words correspond it will be added to temporary tag list. If an x amount of users have tagged the images/movies with the same tags they will be saved to permanent tag list.
2. Users can add tags at upload and these are looked at with upload
3. Users can add tags to images/movies, these are put in a temporary tag list and if an x amount of users have tagged the same tags it will be added to permanent tag list.

Any suggestions are welcome!!

So far what we have decided how the system will work:
× 10 of the same tag is needed to add a tag as permanent to an item
× Tag moderators can add and/or delete permanent tags
× Members 15 or more comments can tag
× Tag already added to permanent tags will be ignored while adding
× Suggest words while typing new tags for a picture
× Earn 0.01 credit per tag

2 users put head to head? unfortunately that makes it seem like a contest, and people would be going overboard coming up with words that are very very unnecessary and irrelevant to the picture just to have MORE words than the other person

i think this is an excellent idea, only if the mods are able to take some of the words out or add words to the suggested ones put in by the users. however i think most users who upload will not do this... think about how many pictures people upload at once.

as an alternative it would be easier if instead of members using their own tags, just let the mods assign some.

this sounds like a pretty good idea. my only concern would be all the words that would be put in that are FAR too general, like "pretty" or "fat" or "ugly" or "fun"

words that would be given by members that will either not specific enough or too much opinion, especially when the girl is only fat to maybe 4 out of every 10 people... but that 4% would eventually tally enough to hit that "x amount" of yours. :P






as an alternate suggestion you might want to consider letting me use 2-3 of our current mods who dont have a lot of mod duties and possibly even hire on 2 more mods as temporary help to start tagging the galleries.

my only suggestion would be to make it a user system...and ONLY have the mods moderate them like we do with comments..

well there will be an ignore list for certain words:
and, any, the, his, when, there, are, before, did, get, have, his, must, out, should, take, them, this, under, which, you, about, being, came, got, her, how, might, only, over, since, than, then, those, well, while, your, after, another, between, can, each, has, here, like, more, never, said, some, that, there, through, very, were, who, all, any, because, both, come, for, had, him, make, most, now, other, same, still, these, was, what, with, also, are, been, but, could, from, himself, into, many, much, our, see, such, their, they, too, way, where, would, not

in this list we can add other words like: ugly, pretty, fat, big, porn, sex, slut, ect

Hmm.. so maybe with the tag system add a system for the mods to check the current tags added recently.. maybe..

yeah, i mean it is just an idea..
apart from words already ignored, we can just check people arent trying to fuck with the system or even spam it..

It seems to me that the ignore list would become awkward.

Ignoring words like "but" would probably exclude words like "butt"

I think most sites that have tag systems allow all tags, but they highlight the more numerous tags. Which I think would be a better idea. So the users would tag it with everything they would tag it with any way, but WBW would only list the top like 15-25 tags per pic (but perhaps have an option to view all of the tags) (OTBF lists the top 50 tags, and ranks them by popularity)

I also think it should be modded like the comments are, and there should definitely be an option to remove a poster's tag rights if they abuse it.

Also, I think the game idea is bad.



WBW should also have a system to set up "aliases" where a mod or someone can make it so that a search for "tit" also brings up tags of "tits", "titties", "titty", "boob", "boobs", etc (danbooru does this, and it seems to work pretty well)

i agree with bang on the "but" problem.... the system would ignore some words that would cause problems but it wouldnt ignore a lot of words. i mean what i people add words like "sky" and bullshit like that? there are an infinite amount of words that would be total crap




i do NOT agree about the tags being modded like comments.

there are only one of 2 options for this. the first would be that if they were set up like our current comment queue, which is ridiculous because you have to read the word, click the link... let the picture load... and close that window and then move onto the next word. my god.. can you imagine?

the other option would be if the pic was already next to the word, which would take SO long to load you could only do 1 or maybe 5 at a time which would take forever as well.





again... instead of letting users add them, we could let mods add them, which would solve all of the problems with having to ignore certain unnecessary words because we would only add the right ones, and we wouldnt have to mod then one by one to make sure the right shit was going in.


only my opinion though.

maybe we could just mod them based upon reports. the reporting system used to work pretty well, and i bet it'd work just fine for the tags.

because making it so that only mods could do it could provide a very limited set of tags. the members would tag what they want to see, and wouldnt tag what they don't want to see. I mean, the tagging mods would probably tag things as "breasts" while the members would add tags like "tiny nipples" "perky" "pointy" etc which I find useful on other sites. It allows me to find pics through tags that I wouldn't originally have searched for. it'd also be a way to further identify sets that haven't been organized together.

i cant wait to have a queue full of 200 words of "breasts", "ass", and "hot" every day when i open it up



i guess the only thing is my biggest concern with having the members do it..... is that though it is obvious that having members assign tags takes all the work off the mods, im really worried itll end up meaning a shitton of cleanup and headaches for the mods when cleaning them up and correcting them.

i dont like the idea of only mods adding tags
the user would be able to tag things ALOT better since they know what theyre looking for...
mods are more used to 'what to add, what not to add' and 'whats acceptable and whats not'

and my idea for the 'tag queue' was to have the a large thumbnail view off the pic next to the word, and it shouldnt take any longer than the current 'top off the babes' to show up...or similar

But it just seems like it'd be worth a shot, since it would provide several viewpoints to identify key features of a pic.

I agree now that the queue is a bad idea, but yeah.

Perhaps someone likes ...floral print bed sheets, and notices that there are several pics of girls on floral print bed sheets, I doubt that a mod would tags things like that, but that could come in really handy.

I'm kind of liking my idea of only displaying the top 20 or so tags, that way the good ones get posted and the bad ones, or less popular ones don't get seen as easily (they'd have to click "view all tags" or something) and the mods could just delete inappropriate ones as they come across them, or just deal with the reports.

Like I said, the reports went pretty well. We just need to get them fixed again...

For this application- reporting the tag brings up the entire set of that tag for the mod, so if someone tags 50 pics with "spamclub.com" the entire set of tags can be deleted in one click.

like the mod would open the report, and see:
"spamclub.com" (50) [view pic] [view set] [delete tag] [delate tag set]

or something

but really i dont care how its done, the feature in itself is a good one, and diz just needs to sort out how he will implement it, i was just giving feedback since thats what he asked for, how ever he does it will just have to work with, like weve done with everthing else

I love how this thread pops up shortly after bashing Dizzy over the head asking for a tagging system.

Here are my thoughts;

1. We will need a tag cloud.
2. Any registered member with more than a month under his/her belt will be able to add tags, but not edit or remove tags.
3. Moderators will be the only ones to be able to add, edit, and remove tags.
4. All obscene/blacklisted words that are used to try and tag will be automatically moved to a special moderation queue.

I add keywords (tags) to almost all the files I save to make them easier to find later. Tags should not be subjective such as "hot" or "cute", even "teen" and "young" are too subjective based on the way some members title thier threads full of 30 year old women.

The best descriptions are combinations of nouns and verbs... mostly nouns though.

Adding tags at the time of approval should be optional, not required, and the layout should be done to prevent unnecessary scrolling, which is huge waste of time when modding pics and vids.

IMO, the whole tagging thing is probably unnecessary if just make the user comments searchable.

Tagcloud component has already been written and can easily be added to sections example is in the future forum search:
