It's one of the reclamation ponds. The companies up here are doing wonderful work in reclaiming the land and this pond will eventually support life again. They have had great success with the processes they have in place despite what you may have heard.

I'll post several. I took all of these myself.
Taken outside my old back porch on an icy morning
Same as above. This was in Maryland
In the Smokies outside of Knoxville, TN
Cumberland Falls in Kentucky
Taken on my still-moving motorcycle. In Tennessee.
Same sunset, but I stopped for this one. This was with a pretty crappy camera.

Goldseeker finds this awesome.

The following pics were part of the Blue Ridge Parkway motorcycle trip I took a few summers ago. They are all either in TN or NC.
That one is one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken.
These last two are outside my house during "Snowmageddon" a few years ago.
A bird clinging in the high winds wishing I'd help him out instead of taking his picture
My back porch under 2.5 ft of snow.

Cannon. Always Cannon. Some of those are with a crappy PowerShot point and shoot, and others are with an older S3IS which has since become the beach/camping/I don't mind if I break it camera, and other still were with a T1i, or the one that I'm careful with.
I don't always carry a tripod with me, but I do use a neat trick I picked up which is to tie a string with a heavy washer on it to a bolt that fits in your tripod mount. Make the string long enough to touch the ground, step on the washer, and pull up until the string is taught. Viola! Instant stability. If I do have a tripod out on the trail, it's just a little Gorilla pod.
