As fucked up as some people are today, thats a very good possibility. So I voted yes

I'm not saying that they will succeed, just that someone will try and attempt an assassination atleast

I guess there are a lot of sick people would try, so I wouldn´t like to be in his shoes if he gets elected...

Yes, without doubt, but the protection team have to be lucky all the time, a gunman? only once..... To be honest should he get in, apart from not making a very good president (far far less experience than the opposition) I really dont give much for a long time in office. I reckon his vice-president will be in the job longer.

Besides, the Secret Service and other agencies are much better at their tasks now, and the type of person that would commit such an act is at an increasingly disadvantageous position due to technique, technology and educational advances within the President's protective communities.

No, he won't be killed. Not because no one wants to, but because the kind of person that would be willing won't have access to the means to do so. It's not like it once was where one person could sneak into a crowd and whip out a pistol at the right moment. Now, when there's a gathering each person's face is scanned as they enter a cordon, run through a database, and responded to if need be whether they know it or not. Locations where the President is going to be are monitored via satellite before the location is even announced to the public, and anyone that goes into the area (perhaps to "case" the place) is monitored while they do so.

Those are two of many, many examples. This is not some cracked up Marine that sneaks into a library and no one sees him. That doesn't happen any more. Could it? On a fluke, certainly. But would it? Not very likely.

I was trained in VIP personal protection when I was in the military. The days of one person deciding to change the world by buying a ticket to the right theater on the right day are long gone. They're... "Ancient history."

The only way a President dies now is either an enormous internal break-down in multiple systems simultaneously, or a pre-coordinated militaristic strike.

I think it's a major faulty assumption to think that just because he's black he'll somehow have a larger number of assassination attempts. Like Tarquin said (BTW, is that a Rock N' Roll Racing reference...?), the Secret Service is far too good at this point for some schmuck to just up and off him. If that were true, there's no way Bush would've made it through 2 terms. Furthermore, the President already receives thousands of death threats a day, why would skin color suddenly change that? When we're talking about that number, it's not as if an increase from 1000 to 2000 is really worth mentioning... Also, why wait till he's President to off him? It appears as though he's already got a good chance of painting the White house black....Sarah 'I Want to Charge Rape Victims for Use of the Rape Kit' Palin already all but sunk McCain...so..he's done fine so far. I'd imagine his odds of being assassinated by some unbalanced individual would be the same as it would be for anyone else. Motive doesn't really matter. I think it's kinda' funny that everyone thinks that just because he's black, suddenly the country who voted him into office will suddenly want to rise up and kill him.

Me thinks you all are giving him much too much credit for being some kind of savior of the country.

I don't think he runs any more risk than any other President. Racism against blacks still exists in the US, as it does in any other place where they are a small minority, but the violence isn't as bad as it was in times past.

Generally it's enough to be the president, but I can't remember an assassination attempt on McCain in the run up for the election though in contrast to Obama (because of his skin color).




Edit: No matter for what reason (religious, racist or economical), just to promise big changes inevitably indicates antipathy and antagonism.

There has been at least one documented assassination attempt on each of the last 7 sitting Presidents. It's a non-issue that shouldn't influence anyone's decision, and frankly, I find the speculation about it a bit disturbing

Mandela made it in South Africa. There was a place that should have been 100 times worse than here. If it can work there, I guess there is hope.

As far as him being offed, who knows, guess we'll find out, if, he becomes elected. I wouldn't put it passed someone to try, but I wouldn't put it passed someone to try to off any politician either, he's just another person in the lime lite to speculate about...

the country doesnt need a savior. obama wont win. we dont need a retard to come in and change us into a completely communist nation. we are doing fine, we just need gradual change in the right direction. thats not what a commie/democrat wants. they want to destroy america.

there are a LOT of racists left in the US (im sad to say i am kinda one). I think if someone took out kennedy, who was awsome, someone is definatly going to try and take out a black president. i hope they dont succeed though, the thought of john mccain, who vote over 90% the same as bush scares the hell out of me. our country has turned into the asshole of the universe since bush ran it into the ground over the past 8 years. i still love america but i cant believe someone didnt take bush out.
