I just read through this whole thread. I loved it. I've always been intrested to get a soldiers view of the conflict over in Iraq. I'm joining the Army in september and plan on trying out for the Rangers. Anyways, Keep up the good work, keep the pics commin, stay safe. Most importantly, come home in one peice.

Morgadeth,

Thankyou so much for everything you are doing over there. My brother is in your part of the world. He just sent me a link to a site his medic is working on. The site is pretty new. Not much is up yet but the pictures. It was nice to see some more of what is happening over there in your pictures. And thank god for the internet and e-mail. It's so great to be able to talk to him on a (somewhat) daily basis. Here's the link to the site if anyone is interested.

Is this the 327th from FtCampbell Ky if it is that is my old unit Charley Co

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is.. I was in 326th Engineers, before the Army restructured and disbanded it for the new "Unit of Action" configuration...

Rangers! Good luck with that!
One of my schoolmates came to visit about ten years ago, ranting and raving about the coolest thing he'd ever done. His college had what the Army calls "Ranger Challenge". It was a sort of obstacle course and team building competition that also gave you a rough assessment on how you might do in the Army. He came to the decision that he was going to drop out of college to join the Army, and I should go with him. I humored him, and went to the recruiter's station.

Well, we both joined, and 10 years later we're both still in. I went the Engineer route, and he was going to go Ranger. It turns out, the school was a little harder to get a slot for than he thought it would be.

Screaming a loud "Screw This", he decided the Rangers didn't need him.

He's now a Special Forces medic, arguably the most difficult job in the US Army...

And I just joined for the college money.. Who Knew?

This is so wrong. No disrespect to the servicemen-women, but its's a war started on false grounds. Sorry about your humvee (a vehicle), your mates (real human beings) and those helmets (what here?!), but the action on the ground is being fought on a false premise.

And all those messages from armchair warriors - huh! Feel free to try the job for a change.

This'll no doubt be deleted, but it does have to be said. So I've said it anyway....

I was in 3 Para - where were you? Yeah, thought so.

I'm cool with you disagreeing with why we are here. I've mentioned before, though, that we can't undo what's been done. We can only move forward to fix the damage and get home safely. Regardless of the "why", what's important is the "what now".

This place has the potiential to be a great nation, they just need to be shown that...
[/reply]

Hiya, at least you know what we're talking about from experience - even though we disagree Just think its scarey how many others sound off with no effing idea of it. Good luck to you and your mates.

Damn it's good to see people change opinions with eachother in a mature and polite way instead of the "usual" arguing and f'yo's.

And let's also keep it that way!

We're doing some work for EOD right now.. (Explosives Ordnance Disposal)
They have what they call an "IED garden", that they use to help soldiers identify the threat. It's comprised of actual nuetralized IED's, mines, and various weapons (some homemade) they've confiscated and removed from attempted attack sites...

Some pretty scary stuff...
The enemy is NOT stupid...

Here's a rocket launcher of some type..

Camouflaging is probably our worst enemy... It's very common of the insurgents to use existing materials and trash as a way to hide their shit...
We still find them, though!

Lemme start this back off with a thanks to Latino for his UBER fast response in unlocking this thread:

THANKS DUDE!!

I've been busy, especially since we're getting ready to leave this place. Hard to believe, it's been almost a year now...

We had some good luck, and some bad luck
I was out on a recon for a potential project a few weeks back, when there was an attempted IED strike on the vehicle right in front of me...
The initiator blew, but didn't set off the main charges. There was a 105mm and 155mm artillery round chained together, which would have destroyed the vehicle, and most likely killed some of our guys.

We spotted some potential suspects, and tore off across the field to get them.
They didn't resist, and we caught three guys who turned out to be insurgents... The best part? One of them had a cell phone on them that was linked to several IED hits, and we had apparently caught one of the main trigger men in the area.

YAY!

About a week ago, while returning to the camp afer a mission, one of our gunners was shot in the face.

Don't ask me how, but he lived through it. Unfortunately, he's not in good shape now. He was sent to Germany as soon as he was stabilized, then off to Walter Reid the other day. He's in critical condition now, and his family is with him.
Wish him luck; We haven't lost anyone yet, and we don't want him to be the first...

I'll keep you posted on his status
