I think it has just continued at a slow pace, sort of like the war.

Yeah, I've been posting as I could since I got to Iraq, which was about a month before I started this thread...
A year is a LONG deployment, and it's almost over!!

So, this thread's got a little history to it... Aged like a fine wine!

Update: I'll be home by mid-August, so this crap is finally over.

One of the guys from my platoon apparently attempted suicide yesterday...
Not really sure for what reason; All we know is that he got some news about a death of one of his good friends back home.
He sliced his arm pretty badly, severing the main tendons. I've never seen a cut that severe in person before. It was quite nasty, but bled very little... He managed to miss all the arteries.

He was very lucky, and very stupid at the same time. We still don't know why he did it, and there were no warning signs, like "they" always say there are...

If we get answers before I leave, I'll post them...

Less than a month to go, and all hell breaks loose...

Ok i'm going to keep this short and to the point, First off, know that I'm an officer in the US Army, a First Lieutenant. That haveing been said. You all need to stop posting pictures of battle damaged vehicles, directives have been sent down regarding this, it is a breach of OPSEC and can be considered treason and punishable by UCMJ. It does not make you cool or impressive. I don't care if you were in the humvee or not, you have absolutely no right to post those pictures. Thanks to soldiers like you, who are more worried about showing off for people on the internet, than they are about following orfers and regulations, the enemy needs only to surf the net to see if they are being successful or not, if you were one of my soldiers I'd see that you ended up at Fort Leavenworth.

Wow...
Almost a YEAR into this thread, and I get threatened!! AWESOME!!
Let ME start by saying:
The internet knows no rank, so leave that shit out of it. I have socks that have been in the Army longer than you... If you took the time to read this thread, you'd see that EVERYTHING I've posted has been in defense of the military, and brought forth some thankful people who like to know the truth.
TRUTH... Reality.. The reality of this is, if you knew anything, is that 99% of the time, the insurgents are spotting or filming their attacks. Nothing I've posted here furthers their cause. They already know what works and what doesn't. They've been trying to blow us up for years; most likely since before you graduated high school.
Showing off?? Trying to be cool?? I'm not the one who came into this trying to flex my rank! I'm glad to see that defending what I believe in and sharing my LIFE is so counter-productive to the mighty war effort.
The pics I posted of the vehicles were for the sake of shutting someone up who thought the free time we enjoyed over here was a waste; we should be out hunting "bad guys". Everything else was pretty tame, in comparison to the shit that's played on Al Jazeera. So, as for supplying the internet with "OPSEC" sensitive shit, I've done no damage...

Lastly; I've been following orders much longer than you've been giving them. I've taught quite a few Lieutenants how my job's done. Instead of cruising websites trying to make waves, do us all a favor and take advantage of the NCO's you work WITH. Learn all you can while you can, so if and when you become a commanding officer, you'll understand what it means to be in charge. EARN the respect of your soldiers, you shouldn't need to demand it. I've worked with some great officers, and some really shitty ones, and one of the things that seperated them was their ability to listen to, trust, and heed the opinions of the NCO's under them. NCO's run the Army... They execute the missions, and train the troops. They make EVERYTHING happen, because they have the experience.

So, regardless of your demeanor, thanks for the post! Once again, I've tried my best to make good of a bad comment, and hopefully, we've opened some more eyes to how the army really is... Thank you for contributing an aspect to this thread that I never thought would be discussed!

Stay Army! (Enlisted, anyways )

Thirty five fuckin' years and nothing has changed.

Well, except for the fact that I gimp a lot more these days, and I can't make the 700 yard shot any more.

I hope you get your sorry(!) butt home safe and sound, my friend.

As for you, Lt., keep you eyes on the prize and stop looking for trouble with the prize winners.

Thats the thing that gets me...a 35 year old front line soldier who has seen battle can get stepped on by a 24 year old Officer/LT ..just because the Officer went to college and the enlisted did not..a college degree does not always make a better soldier
