Well living in a Detroit, I feel some pity to the real homeless, the ones missing limbs, are in visibly bad health and such. Sometimes life just gives you a big shit, other times it doesn't. But to the fake homeless, I threaten them with vicious beatings to stop pestering me for money.

i cant comment too much i guess, where i live there is very little visible homeless around. Even if there was, id feel very little pity for most of them....since we have so much help (welfare state) that they must have tried at some stage to help themselves

but since i dont know much about it, i could be wrong....maybe cracker (being from sydney) might have a better insight

There are a LOT of reasons why people are homeless... mental illness being one of them. Many of the homeless in the U.S. are also vets suffering from numerous things.. with Post Tramatic Stress being one of them.

If we are TRUELY to think of ourselves as "civilized" it's important to look out after the disenfranchised and the damaged. Funny you started this Latino... as I was riding by some folks today living in cardboard boxes. It's troublesome!!!

I give a big slice of Fuck-You to people that don't appreciate what they have and are two friggin ass wiped to care ... thinking it sounds weak or something weird like that.

thats very true i guess, but again where i live, theres alot of help for that.
the only problem is when they have no family so noone to ask for the help on their behalf..

also, the ones who have a physical illness or other, but can still make up their own mind and make
ther own choices, they are the ones that fall through the cracks if they refuse the help

it is a sad situation but as with anything else there are people that take advantage.
the truly homeless do need a break, at the same time there are people that panhandle for a living..I saw a show on 20/20 where people would pretend to be homeless and bring in an yearly income between 80 to 100k....and yes that would be tax free....I am tired of working and being taxed so someone can ride for free.....the root cause for this problem is our government, they make it to easy for people to ride for free

TV skews things...and so do the political spin doctors (who feed the TV) I bet there just plain isn't a blip on the radar the amount of people that are making 100K from pan handling... plus... if it makes the guy that gives the dime happy... WTF!!!

I am lucky that I am healthy, half way intelligent (many would argue that) and that I come from a home with a heart... not a resentment. There used to be a GIANT myth about the welfare Cadilac... sure there are ALWAYS people to take advantage.... but I'd rather let those poor suckers slide and go after the REAL monsters- the poluters, the pension fund raiders, the fleecer of the elderly etc, the fake war mongers. Why not go after large ass wipes vs a few scammers that are, in reality, not an issue. It seems so pussy to ream the poor, the insane and the not to bright.... but then that's a lot easier than picketing a Walmart.

You got that right.... but then people here actually believe (they've been told over and over... so it's just GOT to be true) that the media is liberal

@ SD i believe also tkat a lot of people take advantage of programs that are designed for the truly needy people. They do this in my opinion and because i know several people that do it because they are to damn LAZY to get off their ass and go to work. They use the excuse that there are no jobs, and i say bs to that, if you truly want to work you can find a job, it might not be making 100k a year but there are jobs out there.

the people i know that take advantage are very healthy and very bright, thats what pisses me off about them taking advantage. Plus if you look at the amount of little things that people take advantage of, when you add them together they add up to one HUGE ass scheme

I used to feel bad when i seen them, sometimes i would think they just gave up so i would toss them some change...then when i was 14 one tried to rob me, my dad beat the shit out of him..it was pretty funny and ever since i've been kind of a dick to the homeless.

to put it in perspective...

you dont work? they give you the dole...it has no time limit here
you study? the govt PAYS you to go to school, right up till Uni if you qualify
you sick? free health and some dentistry, plus subsidised medicines and specialists
you pay too much rent? you get rent assistance or quality govt housing (where i live there are NO govt housing estates, theyre built in all over the place to blend in with non-govt housing)

I can't say, as I don't know your people, BUT... I really could never use the terms "bright and healthy" in the same sentence with "taking advantage". I can't say to much more about the real dollars and cents without getting political. Even if you talk real numbers people get mad. However, and as Latino pointed out, welfare in the U.S. is nothing. Look at health insurance cost for just ONE thing and tell me whose really taking advantage-- the poor or the drug companies.

I get the feeling... you don't like that. but.... don't you find that there is possibly a relationship between the educational assistance and people getting real jobs. Also between other "handouts" and a lower crime rate. I guess I'd rather give more on the front end.....sex education, condoms, early prenancy nutrition, early life nutrition and help to moms... than later for crime and prisons. In my mind.. health care should be government controlled... what we have is terrible!!!! I'd like to see a picture of the government housing for Australia. It used to be really bad here (I grew up near what used to be called the "projects" ). They are different now... a little nicer. I live across the street from a government subsidized housing unit and most of those people have been really good.

actually, i dont mid it...what pisses me off is the lowlifes that give the govt the reason to stop all the help.

if you need it, good...we can help you
if not....get the fuck out of that house and pay full rent you lazy fuck!

im all in favour of these "help" sometimes helping costs us more, but helping the masses to me...far outweighs the yet minority that abuse the system.

Here's some pathetic wellfare.

Huge mining companies poluting streams, ruining the land, doing thier job and running out of the country- tax payers fund cleanups.

Corporate executives being paid millions of dollars to run outfits losing billions... when stock holders complain, the execs get golden retirement parachutes and move on.

The same execs buy second and third houses in nice pristine communities (read the mountains or prime beach areas) build in the middle of nowhere and the small town budgets have to pay to service for fire, police and road clean up.

I could go on and on. But these are the REAL slugs to me. The poor and the mentally ill are to be cushioned... the low life scammers... well they get to live with themselves and hang with their low life friends.... and ultimately...real life just passes them by.

When I was a kid there were "bums" and "hobos". They lurked around railroad tracks, ate rabbit stew, picked trash and rolled their own cigarettes. They were illiterate, alcoholic, and dirty but aside from occasional begging in front of a liquor store, they were just very independent and rarely a burden on society.

Welfare is a hungry machine that props people up just enough so that they can ..... yup, feed the machine.
