Back to the whole retarded/gay/Jew thing.

I think it totally depends on the context in how the word is used, and most of the time it's used to put emphasis on something negative. For example:

Guy 1 - "Hey what do you think of my new car?"

Guy 2 - "That's the gayiest car ever."

In this case he isn't using gay as a positive adjective...like gay is fantastic...he's using it to put emphasis on how crappy he thinks the car is.

I can speak from experience, this bothers me. I don't view myself in a negative life, I'm happy and comfortable with who I am, but I'm constantly hearing my sexual orientation portrayed in a negative way.

I think lesbians are welcome.

I believe anyone who thinks they know exactly where we came from is fairly fucking stupid as nobody has concrete proof one way or the other and to firmly believe anything without absolute proof means you are purposely closing yourself off to new possibilities or ideas and that is ignorant and extremely short sighted.

You guys stole the word gay in the first place. Gay never meant homosexual it just meant happy. So you re-purposed the word to mean homosexual, now others have re-purposed it to mean "shitty". Ya can't really claim ownership over a word your group stole and distorted to begin with.

I'm sure the people who made the movie "The Gay Divorcee" in 1934 were probably offended when ya guys stole the word and pretty much made their movie title take on a completely different meaning. So what goes around comes back around eventually.

But why would you let that bother you, it's not like he said the car is as gay as SP, I take it more as a general description not meant as a slam toward anyone but a car

The entire world seems to base all words on a single meaning, when in fact many words have several different meanings and people let a particular word bother them even if said word isn't aimed at them or to degrade them...

I don't know, it just irks me when people think some words are not appropriate no matter the context...

And I can give you another example...

The word nigger, or nigga, I know a lot of people that use this word as a greeting with each other, (wasup nigga) and in that context it isn't a degrading word, it's all in how it is used that makes it appropriate or inappropriate, which is why the whole "don't ever use this word" campaign just irritates the hell outta me...

I agree Demo which is why I try and use the world "cunt" as often as possible to break down the walls. It seems to be the most offensive word left in existence. It's the only word left that stirs an instant reaction out of most people even if it's just an uncomfortable look. I actually hate the word but it's the last word with any major power in it. Fuck used to draw a reaction but now that's about the same as saying lollipop.

And for the record, going from Swiss's post, the word "fag" was originally meant to refer to a cigarette, so who decided it should also mean a homosexual male...

I hear what you're saying, but don't quite agree.

I'd actually prefer if they said that car is as gay as SP, because...well...I'm awesome and am totally comfortable being gay, so in that context I'd feel that he was meaning the car was actually awesome as opposed to being shitty. Obviously it depends if said guy also agreed that I'm awesome...but let's face it...I am.

As for the "nigga" example, I have no problem with that because it's actually being used in a positive way, it's being used as an affectionate greeting. In my example "gay" was being used to describe something negative. You hear it all the time, "that movie was so gay", "Honda is so gay"...If Honda was gay, then no big deal, but it's being used in a derogatory way. Which I personally think is not cool.

Yeah, how about none of those things need to be licensed, because they're activities that consenting adults can engage in which harm nobody other than themselves.

I believe that if you at not a citizen of the country you live in or a passport hold for the country you live in and you get convicted of a crime you should be deported back to your country of origin after you have served your time.

To clarify this is nothing to do with race/colour/religion. I am not a racist, I am patriotic and proud to be English.
