This isn't exactly current, and I may have posted it before somewhere, but I thought it was perfect for this thread.

My vasectomy was the best $400 I've ever spent. The pills were enjoyable though I think the doctor was a little casual considering where he was messing around!

Interestingly I had no problem getting one done but my partner has previously inquired about having a tubal ligation and it was not a happening thing; because she hasn't had children she was refused the procedure. Fair enough I guess, after all you can't expect a mere woman to make decisions about her own body. Sad.

Its absolutely true, I have a friend that was denied Essure...which I realize I'll probably have to explain. Essure is basically a non surgical method of blocking the fallopian tubes, and is considered permanent. She's 27 years old, never had children, and no desire to have children, but her doctor wouldn't do it. Its absolutely ridiculous that these so called professionals think they have a right to enforce their beliefs over our bodies. Now, I understand that its not religious beliefs that prevented my friend from getting Essure, it was the doctor believing my friend would some day regret her decision not to have children. I've heard men under 25 being rejected for vasectomies before, but I'm not sure if its the norm or not, regardless, my friend was 27 at the time and certainly able to make her own decisions about her body.

I was told that if I had've been 18 then I would've been questioned a little more closely about my decision to not have children but it didn't seem that, as male, anyone would presume to tell me that I don't know my own mind.

How the hell do we still have these issues in supposedly advanced societies? NZ prides itself as the first country to grant women suffrage and yet women are still being told that their decision-making is inferior to that of a man!
