Anyway, for those of you non-Americans, and Acura is the american division of Honda. Import restrictions a decade ago forced the Japanese to form either American subsidiaries or separate companies in order to import more cars.

Toyota = Lexus

Datsun/Nissan = Infinity

Honda = Acura

It was only neceesary is you sold enough cars. The original Lexus LS 300's were the exact same car as a Toyota Camry. I actually sat in a Lexus that had a Camry nameplate on the dasboard.

Acura's are actually built in the US. Nice cars but way over priced.

And Toyota isn't a lexus. Lexus is a sister-corporation owned by Toyota, those brands are sold separately, as far as I know. Infinity being nissan is new to me, can't say about it.

Acutally, you're wrong. Before Lexus became popular, you could pop the hood of one and see "Toyota" everywhere. Same with Acura's, Honda parts, just a different label. Mazda is genuine Ford product. Seriously, I think there are like 4 total car manufacturers world wide that use different names as a marketing scheme.

Actually, Mazda is just got purchased by Ford, but they still sort of act on their own when it comes to certain designs, although the Mazda3 is similar to a Volvo model, and I think the engine is a Ford design. The rotary engines are still in house Mazda designs, and the Mazdaspeed 6's direct injection is Mazda designed too.

Infiniti is the luxury version of Nissan. Ever wonder why the G35's design looks sort of like the 350Z?

I really don't like the design of the Dodge Caliber. It looks like an "Americanized" version of the Mazda5. It looks like they took the body, made it less aerodynamic, stuffed a bigger engine in it and made it burn more gas.
