I just started using Linux on my gaming computer, and being as how my laptop, which has been my main computer for like 4 years ran Windows...and the desktop before that one ran Windows(both XP), I started thinking...What OS does your computer run?

I guess I should add in here, which version do you run i.e. for Windows users, XP, Vista, Windows 7, or even some old school motherfucker out there running Windows 95 cause it's what all the cool kids are doing.

Why are you running this particular OS? Was it by choice, or just what your computer came installed with? Also, if you are running an OS like Linux, which distro are you using?

I have two computers which I regularly use, my laptop and new gaming rig. My laptop runs genuine Windows XP Media Center edition 2005, which acts a lot like Pro(in ways I wasn't sure that it did). Depends on how you check, but different Windows components report it as either Pro or MCE. For this computer, I'm running Windows because that's what it came with, and at the time, didn't ever think about, or what to try a different system on there.

My gaming rig is/will be running a few. I have Windows XP x64 for the gaming side of things. I also have a Linux distro installed on there too; Ubuntu. I'm also looking to add Windows 7 on a separate partition to play with, cause it looks cool. :P

Windows is on this computer because that's what I need to play my games on there, but I have Linux installed because I really wanted to test drive another type of operating system. So far, I like it. I'm looking to try out a couple other versions of Linux that seem pretty decent. I'll stick with which ever tends to fit me best, not like I'm going to have 5 distros of Linux going on this thing.

I do my thing on a DELL with DualCore, 228-gig, running Windows XP-Pro...'had a shot at Vista upgrade for no $$, but opted to stay with "tried 'n true" XP Pro...Vista had some problems sorting itself out for a while there...I am totally happy with XP Pro - 'never a problem.

That's kind of what I'll have going on when I'm done.

I would dual book my laptop if I had a larger hard drive in it. I don't have shit for space left. I would like to run XP/7 x86 unfortunately.

So what do you think about Ubuntu? Have you tried out any other distrobitions?

I have a MacBook Pro with OSX Leopard at work and an older PC running WinXP at home.

Considering installing Windows 7 on my Mac too, but still a bit unsure about it, because some of my collegues have installed WinXP on their Macs with the problem of the Mac getting extremely hot (warm) while running WinXP - a problem that never occurs to me while running OSX Leopard.

XP Home, sp3.

My first computer ran 2000 Pro.

Dicked around with 7 on this comp for a while, but didn't have enough memory for some parts of it. I have one gig, but apparently, that didn't get it!!

Never used Vista, and never will!!

XP Pro service pack 3.

I have it because I'm most familiar with it and I hate Mac's. When I bought the computer they tried to give me Vista but because I hear people complain about it a lot and because I don't know enough about it myself I stuck with XP. I've heard good things about Windows 7 though so I may give that shot.

For me Mac just isn't an option and most likely never will be. They price themselves so ridiculously high and they have this attitude of superiority about them which I just don't like. It comes across as pure arrogance. Also you have no options it's Mac or die. With Windows based systems you have tons of manufacturers to choose from and you can pick what company you'd like to do business with and you never have to set foot into one of those uber trendy apple stores.

Snow Leopard on my primary computer - because it's the best OS for my needs. I've got Tiger on my secondary Mac. I also have two Slackware boxes, and a FreeBSD and NetBSD box too.

I do occasionally test various things on various flavours of Windows, Linux, BSD or Solaris too on virtual enviroments.

Suse linux for anything that matters, especially web surfing/work. Windows XP on a laptop for a specific Winbloze required application on a laptop that does not connect to the internet. And yes, that includes the so-called windows updates and fixes, which I suspect are really just MS attempting to mine my web surfing and buying history, which fear was specifically engendered by the fact that they said they were not doing that. Low level of trust.

I'm surprised to see so many people who run Linux. I figured it would be like 90% or higher Windows, several handfuls of Mac users, and just a sprinkle of Linux users. Maybe one other person running something different than those too.
