Not sure if this really impacts you boys on the other side of the Atlantic, but in the states Tebowmania is out of control. Personally I think he is a good role model and plays hard, so not sure why so many people hate him. It seems like the media has created the vomit inducing coverage of him. Anyone have opinion??http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/tebow-time-three-3-16-references-boffo-tv-172145772.html

love him, but would the media be as upset if he was a jew or a muslum and wanted to pray. If he was muslim we would probably make special accomodations for him and put our prayer mats, but god forbid anyone is christian.....
MissMia22 12 years ago
i think it is because people resent him for having faith and believing in it. others either don't believe or wish they did better at practicing. I just think he seems like a good person and he is positive...whats wrong with positive!!!!

Id take a million of him over any of these ghetto, tattooed, doo-rag, pull out my cell phone look at me players.......

Neither love or hate. He would not be starting on ANY other NFL team.

No opinion, in fact up till 2 days ago I had no idea who he was, now the only thing I know is he plays football for the Broncos...

If you think that's what would happen if he decided to do some Muslim prayers you're extremely out of touch with the football watching crowds in the United States.
(Hint: He would be treated very poorly)
As for Tebow, I'm torn.
I hate overt displays of religiocity, just because they're dumb and it's stupid to think that your god gives a shit about your touchdown or your score or your fucking sporting career, and because doing it so often in such a public manner is not necessary. You can pray, or thank the load, or do whatever you like to do without genuflecting and making a big public show of it.
On the other hand, he gets soooo many people upset that I kind of admire him for that. He's like the ultimate sports troll, even if he's doing it sincerely.

I can chuckle at, and admire your philosophy on that at the same time.

100% agree with EL on this one. No need to be a douchenozzle and overtly refer to and praise God at every turn, because if there is a God, he doesn't give a rat's ass if Denver wins a fucking NFL game. However, the fact that it causes such an inordinate fuss, gives me some guilty pleasure in the circus moving on to the next town. Let the media do another 50 stories on him and his faith. The reality is that we are all human and he is probably Kanzen or Brownell or BillK on this very website.
Also, I am interested in what Jesus himself has to say about this...

Tebow is not a good NFL QB. He has very poor throwing mechanics but can run his ass off. He also has a will to win that is undeniable. I think its a combination of the facts he sucks as a passer and is very religious. I could care less about someones religion provided they keep it to themselves and aren't putting it in your face all the time. Tebow goes beyond overboard in that regard and is thus a very divisive character.
As for those who think Muslims would get a pass in professional sports (Demigod) should look up Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. He was suspended from the NBA for saying a prayer during the National Anthem (One nation under god...). If anything, Tebow is getting the pass because he is Christian not the other way around.

It is funny to me to sit back and read all of the people, media and otherwise, that want to talk about this kid Tebow's faith. There are so many athletes that praise God verbally or through actions when something happens in there favor yet the only one that gets discussed is Tebow.
Has anyone even noticed that M. Prater, the Broncos kicker, points to the sky after he makes a field goal? Or that Troy Palamalou crosses himself after a defensive stop? Or even the fact that Tebow is not the religious leader of this team? Brian Dawkins leads all the prayer circles and pregame/post game prayers.
Hell we can go back a few, I don't remember Reggie "The Minister of Defense" White getting this much grief for his religious beliefs and he was at least as forthright with his as Tebow is with his.
I don't get it. I am a Bronco fan and am not a Tebow hater or supporter. I believe that if he gives the team the best chance to win then play him.

Jesus did comment on it, he hates the Steelers and arm mechanics, isn't that obvious?

My take...
I feel like Tebow is the Justin Bieber of the NFL, two very polarizing figures that are hated for many of the same reasons they are loved. Media attention exacerbates that love or hate, if not spawns it. Given that Tebow is radically different from the standard NFL QB, ultra religious to the point of rolling your eyes, and the fact that he manages to win with less than 50% passer completion are reasons to give him that attention.
With that said, i'm indifferent.
But i heard something pretty funny on the radio today. Imagine the Broncos making the playoffs and beating the mighty Steelers as the next Disney movie entitled "FOURTH AND GOD: THE TIM TEBOW STORY"

I agree with what you said, I also believe this...but...I laughed my ass off with the misspell of "or thank the load." I'm sure more guys on this site thank the "load" rather than thank the "lord." Not a diss, that was just great entertainment!

EL is right. If Tebow was Muslim they'd be ready to kill him.
The difference between Tebow and other religious players is that Tebow actively proselytizes. He's very much in your face, and so are his idiot fans.
If he weren't such an outspoken Christian, he'd have never been given a second look by most NFL teams.

I should of mentioned that if he plays hard, that's all that matters but he needs to keep all the other stuff private and off the field.
One of the best goal kickers of all time in the NRL (National Rugby League in Australia) was a devout Muslim, but you would never have known as he tried his best to keep his personal life and religious beliefs off the field and out of the public arena. As a result and to this day, he has a great deal of respect from the majority of football fans and the general public.
