It's an issue because it's monstrously ridiculous to thank god for every little positive happenstance that occurs in your life - especially ones that come at the expense of others. "Thank you, lord, for making that Pittsburgh defensive back have the worst game of his career! PRAISE JEEBUS!"

Basically, my position--that Tebow's show of devotion is stupid and absurd--can be summed up in some pictures:

The Minnesota Vikings Game — — — — — — — — The Joplin, MO Tornado

The Miami Dolphins Game — — — — — — — — — — — — — The Rise of Hitler

The Cincinnati Bengals Game — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Smallpox

The Oakland Raiders Game — — — — — — — — — — — The Napoleonic Wars

The San Diego Chargers Game — — — — — — — — — — — The Haiti Earthquake

The New York Jets Game — — — — — — — — — — — The Mongol Conquests

The Pittsburgh Steelers Game — — — — — — — — — — — Rwandan Genocide

The Detroit Lions Game — — — — — — — — — — — The Success of Nickelback

I shall not speak of issues I have no personal experience with. Does tragedy prove the absence of God? No moreso than blessings themselves. But unless you have personally visited Haiti, a nation where the populace often lives and survives at a level of animals. Where the social structure is so corrupt, so singular and so primitive that it has been declared "below a 3rd level Nation". A nation founded by slaves that dedicated themselves to satan if they would be delivered from bondage,... then you know not of which you speak.

While my personal belief that tragedy can be a tool of God makes no sense to someone who believes otherwise, there are many "miracles" occuring every day, and some level of hope is being brought to hopeless people in the name of Jesus. Regardless of your belief in a God, when good things happen as a result, what's the harm? The old system wasn't working.

As an American, or a citizen of any developed western nation, you cannot comprehend Haiti unless you've been there. You can't smell pictures.

Replace the "Christian" part of this with "Muslim" and answer your own question.

Beyond that, we'd be getting into a whole different conversation if we got into the idea that "Yes, believing in imaginary friends and making judgments for yourself - and especially others - based on those beliefs is contrary to productive society."

Even among Christians, Fundamentalist Christianity is a sect - it's a cult by definition.

It's amazing to me how all the Christians think it's okay for them to ram their belief system down someone else's throat, but won't tolerate it when others do the same to them. Then they cry that they're persecuted (as if they even know what that word actually means) when they're told to knock it the fuck off.

problem here is, Tebow believes what he belives. He isn't ""ramming"" anything anywhere, so, get over it.

Seriously, there's at least a dozen things that diatribe are just blatantly wrong here, and this has shit-all to do with Tim Tebow.

Take it to your Church, budday.

sorry, budday, but that's Un-American. One of the primary rights in the US constitution is Freedom OF Religion. You don't agree with him, learn to just ignore him.

There are many Muslims in the NFL, including Ryan Harris, the offensive lineman for Tim Tebow and the Broncos. You're right though, that if they were overtly in your face about it people would react to them poorly.

Tim Tebow does exactly that, so he should expect no other response.

And neither should his zealots.

get you face out of his beliefs!

This exactly.

If a Muslim player were to fall to his knees and genuflect in prayer toward Mecca after scoring a touchdown or while on the sidelines, there's almost no doubt that he would be in the national doghouse and experience a derision the likes of which would dwarf this Tebow reaction.

""almost no doubt"" is just bullshit! You can't prove your silly hypotheticals, so stop claiming it's God's Truth. Get your face out of Tebow's beliefs, and you will have NO problem!

I think Tebow gets a lot of good publicity for his religion, and also gets a lot of bad publicity for it. Some people hate him for it while others adore him for it. And both sides are wrong.

As for me, I like Tebow as a player because he has a never say die attitude. Dude is a winner and pushes everyone else to win also. I am an Alabama fan and Tebow was our kryptonite in 2008. For that I hate him. But he is genuinely a good guy and a fierce competitor.

So, I don't love him or hate him. I respect him.

I don't see what the difference is between him taking a knee and a million other athletes blessing themselves before they play. Regardless of his football talents, he plays hard and finds a way to win.

HERE is the only question for those who claim to know that a demonstrative Muslim would not be tolerated in the NFL;

IF that did happen, would YOU be here on WBW starting forum threads critical of him?? POINT is, the only hypothetical you can claimn as truth is how YOU would react!

EL, you have the saddest capability of taking something meaningful and reducing it to nothing. Discussions like this with you leave me feeling more pity than anything.

The irony of the "Enlightened and Educated" closing their minds to something they refuse to try and understand, or at least contemplate, is a sorrowful irony, indeed.

I for one would not. No more so than any other expression of religion, or lack thereof, even if it were a satanic symbol... as many musicians do without anyone seeming to notice.

I would be up in arms if two players were to embrace and kiss in an open display of gay love. I would do the same for a hetero expression if it went beyond that, say to a groping, or worse.

My mind is big enough to accept that all won't agree with me without getting all worked up over it.

Thanks, EL, for expressing so clearly why the religious part of his show is ridiculous. (And throwing in the Nickelback commentary was brilliantly conclusive!)

In fact, there is only ever one explanation for why the media covers anything: People consume it. If he sells ads, they'll cover him and if he doesn't, they'll stop. They don't care at all WHY you watch, just THAT you watch. They're not biased for or against a particular religion unless they can parlay it into eyeballs.

If you don't like Tebow, don't watch the coverage and stop writing about him on entertainment forums.

Personally, as a Steelers fan, the politically correct thing to do is hate on him. Sorry, not gonna happen. The Broncos beat the Steelers Sunday, not Tebow. As for an objective opinion, I'd rather see an interview with Tebow than another damn show on teen moms or "Engaged and Underage". I'm not overtly religious like Tebow, but I do believe in God, and he says we should throw the whole cast of Jersey Shore into the pacific with an achor!!!

As a christian myself, this is my problem with the belief that Jesus intervenes in sports: I don't think God really wants any one of us to succeed more than anyone else. The thing about Jesus stepping in to help Tebow complete a 3rd down pass is that at the same time Jesus has to tell the other team to suck it.

Is he going to be a great player? Time will tell. But why can't the fact that he is physically gifted be enough. I think his parents have had a lot more to do with his success (genetically, I mean) than Jesus has.

I want to think that God has bigger fish to fry than the outcome of NFL games. Of course, if he doesn't that probably does explain a lot.

Ah hah!
