Doc,
I learned on a Konica SLR I bought in HS. I never had the money for a top end lens or lots of film development, so my pics never turned out great, but economy did help me hone an eye. These days I use a:

The color saturation out of this camera is incredible for a point & shoot. The 10x zoom is crisp, and makes a huge difference in the pix. I'll show a couple of zoom & without zoom pics for comparison of the sunsets. I don't know what improvements have happened in the year since I bought this, but I would buy it again. It also does 5 shots per second and HD video. A very versatile camera. No, it's not an SLR with an f-1.6 lens, but for the average person that just wants to capture some good images, I would highly recommend it.

Thank you Neon.
Post 599 is also a good example of playing with the zoom and settings. I don't know if I changed settings, but the last two pics in 599 are taken within moments of each other, yet they look completely different.
