Just for your information;
I joined about 4 years ago, I'm what the call an "able seaman" but I'm shooting for my killick(Corporal) by the end of the summer. If you still planning to get rip, the Boot camp will turn a fatty into a marathon runner. When I joined I weighted about 230 pounds and by the time I graduated from Combat School I was 189 and able to march close to 14 km(about 8.75 miles for our US friends) in less than 2 hours with full combat rig and weapon.

They'll let you shoot the gun in less than 4 week. Boot camp last for about 15 week(paid) and big difference with our yanks counterparts, you dont have to pay for your gear or uniforms.

Try it, but what I would do if I was you, since I know how the system works, go for reserve. You'll go up the ranks faster, and when you feel like you're ready, you can switch for whatever trade you wish in the regular forces.

Its not a bad thing, but boot camp sucks until you reach the "hump"(about week 8 or 9). Then everything goes smoother.
