I am going to spend my money on a mp3 player: I won't ask which ones are good, rather I will ask which ones I should not touch with a 10 foot clown pole. I went to cnet but I would still like some first hand accounts . Anyone?

zune is for people who buy thier music 100% of the time, ipod is for either teenyboppers, or people who dont give a fuck. Sandisk is good if u have from 30-2000 songs. Creative is best for 2000-10000 songs....

Simply buy a midrange mp3 player with micro sd or mini sd expansion and put more cash on headphones! Heaphones make de 90% of the sound quality.

For headphones I recommand sennheiser mx300 ear buds for cheap and serious performer, shure e3(more expensive) but kick ass in every way, or a full headset from sennheiser!

I've got a 6gig iriver. For the price of a 4 gig nano i got the iriver plus an fm transmitter and two extra gigs. It also plays mp3 as well as wmp so i thought that was pretty good.

When i asked the salesman why i hadn't heard of iriver he said that apple had millions more $$ to throw at their advertising. I thought that was fairly plausible (he was a salesman after all).

I have a 60 gig Creative Zen. I've dropped it and beat it to death and never had any trouble out of it. I think it was like 200~ bucks.

Ive heard that creative are good, but i chose an ipod purely on the amount of accesories available for it, and that most cars now have ipod compatability in some shape or form.

no, go off of an educated opinion.

salespeople are there to sell crap. thats what they do. hell, i spent my time being very good at getting people to spend up to 150 US dollars more than they had to per month simply because they didn't educate themselves.

it was a terrible job...

Thanks for the input guys, greatly appreciated. I had heard to avoid I pods like the plague due to cost of the accessories but I don't know anyone who actually owns one. Irivers and creative seem to be a popular choice and I only know one girl who has a zune and she is not happy.

I have a 4th Gen iPod (3600+ songs). I love it and use it daily. People who usually say avoid the iPod are the Anti-Apple idiots who get off on spreading fud.

Ipods are good. Creatives are almost as good and cheaper. Zune is not too good.

Ipods main problem has to do with image. Ipod and Apple is essentially rebel-brands. On one hand rebel brands are popular these days because it is popular to be rebelious and individual in brand choice. The main problem and huge paradox for these brands is that the effect of the very image that make them popular is what will ultimately make them unpopular. The more popular they become - the less rebelous they will be perceived (Ipods are already perceived as mainstream) and in turn they will loose their core customers... who in turn will begin a slander campaign against this "sell-out" brand.

Yes - I do teach and consult marketing. ;-)

I have a 30 gb Creative Vision M. Does everything your ipod will do, plus it plsys a wider range of video types, has an fm tuner, and a voice/radio recorder in it. About the same price, maybe a little cheaper now, than the comparable ipod.

Didn't want an ipod main for the fact that you MUST use itunes for it. Nothing wrong with itunes, i guess, but i think that if i spend 300 bucks on something, i should be able to use it how i want. if i want another jukebox program, i should have that option. i don't want apple telling me what i can or can't do with own property.

that's just me.
