It could be best as described as seagoing spooks, they are trained as Linguists/Interpreters, Signals Intelligence Analysts, and Special Signals Analysts as well as other skills that people don't want publicised! They serve on ships, and submarines, as well as shoresides, both in the UK and in foreign climes. Effectively your a one man spy unit, your locked away in a sealed room using high end technology to spy on the enemy, interpret what it means and pass it on to the captain.

I've not really started yet. Done my tests/interview/medical/fitness etc. Waiting for a join date to do my basic training. It's a very limited class though which is extremely tough to complete so hopefully i can get through it.

Ahh in the USN those are called CT's, I called them "Spooks". They were in the same divison with me. I will admit they were lousy drinkers/partiers. They did teach me some cool phrases in Turkish and Russian though.

They are refered to as CT's over here too mate. If they're lousy drinkers, then i should fit right in . Not much of a drinker these days, although i'm sure it'll come back to me.

Funny little Naval encounter I had running off the coast of Jacksonville Florida, which is a fair sized naval port. I was taking a yacht up north, when on the VHF radio, I hear my vessel being called. I hear "Vessel at so and so degrees lat and long, at a speed of 25 knots on a course of 016 degrees, do you copy?" They sounded pissed off. This was just after 9/11.

I come back on the radio with my call sign, speed, course and direction. "Where are you heading and what are your intentions" they said. I look off to my starboard side and see really big guns. Not thinking about the Coast Guard chopper I just saw (which now in hindsight, is why they seemed pissed), I wandered what the hell did I do.

I am going to S. Carolina for fuel but my intentions are to do what ever you tell me to, because your a War ship and your guns are bigger than mine. Wrong answer!! As I was saying it, I realized it but to late now. Luckily for me they were looking for a smaller boat, asked me some more questions, then made me change course by 10 miles to avoid them.

Moral to the story. The military does not have a sense of humor, when it comes to the size of there guns.

4 years active. At least 5.5 reserves (they didn't actually let me out till after college - no one could leave because we were short manned).
