And hypothetically, if it were a branding commercial: Because they're challenging the position of Mercedez being the accepted name of luxury. Mercedez is outdated. As for not showing their entire line, I don't know much about Audi, but I'm assuming that the vehicle shown is their flagship. Many commercials don't go (some do, it's kind of almost even, probably) "We also have this!" You find "this" when you realize you can't afford 80,000 and are already on their site. It's more about getting people thinking about Audi (and also, the new Star Trek) than it is about getting people to buy an A8 specifically.

I'd say. But I'm not an ad exec, so who knows really.

It is amazing in that the competition is featured so prominently. LIkely as much screen time as the Audi's, but never in a comparatively positive fashion.

yeah I found that odd too. They don't really slam Mercedes...just kinda make them look not as good.

i think the ad is really well done and is trying to overtly and subliminally draw some clear lines, audi - sexy, new, innovation, cutting edge, etc. mb - old, routine, not really up to date

1. agree to disagree* - *opinion might be somewhat biased due to being a former A8 owner (pre-expensive ass kids)

2. the lightening mcqueen effect - car designers are always trying to add things to personify vehicles. they want people to think of the car as a member of the family... why not give the car "eyes" could get creepy in the future. think fleshlight...
