Hi guys. I'm deciding upon what kind of car I want to buy. I'm going to have to get a loan, and I'm hoping just to get like.. 7k maybe. And find a car for 6, that way I can have 1k laying around for insurance and stuff until I get a BETTER job. Anyway, my question is which car? Focus, Honda, or what?

I really like Ford Foci, and Hondas(of course). Anyway, what's yall's 2 cents?
BTW, I'm 21, bout to move out (again), and I need to go to school still. So the car will be used often, to and from work, and possibly school.

Thanks.

I bought meself a civic 3 days ago. I payed 2K and very happy with it, every production-flaws has been fixed and it doesn't have any corrosion. Almost a perfect package.

First off, its almost impossible to wear a Honda out. Not to mention the resale value on a Honda surpasses those others that you listed, but the bottom line is you have a limit on what you can spend and its going to be YOUR car. Not ours. Find a car that you are happy and comfortable with, because you are going to be the one driving it and having to look at it every day. Good luck man!

Yeah I wouldn't mind having a bike. I love riding them. If I got a crotchrocket, I'd get one of those ones that have like.. suspension on the back? I don't know how to explain it, I"ve only seen it a few times. They look awesome, and fun to ride.

ANyway, I've been looking in newspapers, autotrader, etc for cars. The best I've found was a really nice low mileage focus for 5k, but the guy never called me back. So I'm just gonna have to keep looking. Thanks for your advice guys.

You may think I'm crazy b/c you are a young guy but if you buy new, for that money you will end up with a car that won't be worth a dime when you go to get a new one. Buying used is tricky because the car can eat away at your savings by nickel and diming you in the interim.

What you need is something reliable, safe, good gas mileage, and that has already passed most of the depreciation on to former buyers.

The link is to a 1998 Volvo S70. The car is reliable, fun, safe, FAST, and has already depreciated. Moreover, this is an average price. You can also buy one from a dealer and get a partial limited warranty. It can always be sold in a few years probably for not much less than you are buying now.

Volvo's used to have a stigma but they are now a lot cooler than they were a few years ago. Drive it for a few years and save up your money. You insurance will also be a lot cheaper.
