Frankly, raising the minimum wage is a temporary, bandaid solution. Great, raise the minimum wage to $12/hour. So now the minimum wage worker has a living wage for the time being, until - as noted - the market normalizes and now $12 is the new impoverished.

The problem is more at the top and the income disparity will still continue to grow. It'll just be stunted for a few years. So without any social programs at all, that leaves people screwed, even when working. But hey, you know what they say - a country with people who can't afford to feed or house themselves is a strong country.

And it's all completely worth it to make sure that the limited few who are abusing the system are stopped, even if it would sacrifice the majority of folks who receive support and are using it properly.

Also, this forum has gotten way off topic. Who will be the next president has now become an "I hate poor children getting free breakfasts/lunches at school" thread for some.

How about you leave my post's alone & I will gladly do the same for you?

How about you debate an issue...any issue without calling people names? You're like the bully on the playground that when he can't get his way starts calling everyone names.

This. When people talk about slashing the military budget, it doesn't mean put our soldiers in an even crappier environment with less than they already have. It mean stop spending trillions to war profiteers. You know there are developmental aircraft, that the US has never actually even used that cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars? This is WASTED money. If you ask me where I'd rather see my tax dollars go, I'll give it to poor people 100% of the time before I give 1 more cent to billionaire government contract holders who often work on a no-bid system and/or they have ties to highly elected US officials. cough...Halliburton...cough...

The Military has become a Jobs program. Each Congress person wants the high dollar weaponry built in their state. The Pentagon wants Congress to stop allocating money for Tanks and can't get them to stop. A whole chain of jobs depends on that tank being built. The Pentagon is over loaded with Tanks. How wars are waged is changing. The Pentagon says it doesn't need certain planes anymore either. Very hard for them to kill production. I am for a Strong military too. I am just against waste and building things the Pentagon says it doesn't need. Why doesn't North Korea attack South Korea? The US and South Korea don't have the manpower to stop NK if they suddenly attacked SK with no warning. We would be force to go with the Firepower and technology that would annihilate NK in a counter attack. That is what I have been reading lately. That NK knows they would be committing suicide. China would have no time to come to the rescue like they did last time. We have spent a fortune to be in this position

NO, you are wrong again!
I responded to being called a name because he doesn't agree with my points. Just like you did speaking of a bully!!

It actually has everything to do with the topic since some presidents support the entitlements, welfare, food stamps, free lunches & want to keep printing & spending money & the others may not.
I don't hate them, I just don't want it to be my responsibility or money to pay for them.
I financially support a local organization for children with life threatening diseases. It makes mortgage payments & pays bills for the parents can quit work to be at the hospital full time with their children.
There are months that I can give more depending on my business & some months that are tighter & we give less. That is how life works.
You don't make it mandatory for us workers to pay if we don't agree or want to.

Just a little free primary education for you.

No. It doesn't. Nothing has been discussed regarding what potential candidates believe what in quite a few posts.

There are thousands of politically related topics that could be discussed because some potential candidate has feelings on the matter and you would say it's relevant to this discussion. That's exceptionally broad and goes far outside the scope of this thread. This goes beyond opinion and your statement that we aren't far off topic is simply wrong.

But again you elect to dip into insults by questioning intelligence. I find your general viewpoints on life and the world around you to be pretty offensive at times and it seems you are staunchly set on being uninformed while making things up on this board and others. Yet note that I haven't insulted you in any of my responses. I've disagreed with you, and that's it. Take a lesson. Multiple folks on here have noted you do this - it doesn't help discourse or persuade people to agree with your viewpoint, for that matter.

Anyway, I said before I generally avoid threads like this for this reason. So... Bye.

Ah, moss edited when I was typing.

Good for you that you donate to a charity. I don't think most people do, which is a shame.

I don't care for taxes either. But I like the services that are provided, so I pay them. Even though I don't want as much to go to the military and I don't have any kids in public schools. But as you say, this is how life works. I wish more people made better life choices, too, but they don't, and having them live in a life of poverty in a situation where they can't contribute isn't the way to fix things. There will always be people who will take advantage of the system - rich, poor, or middle class. I don't think that means we punish the vast majority of folks who are doing nothing wrong.

I think it just comes down to that a healthy population (financially and otherwise) is good for the country as a whole. When your neighbor makes enough to support his/her family, it's good for you. No good is provided when their kids go hungry, when they lose their house, or when they can't afford to pay the heating bill.

Thank you!
I very much agree with this post. It's important in many ways that my neighbors do well & teach their children to work hard & collect your rewards from it. That is the American dream!
I believe & see that a huge number of people get themselves in financial binds by living & spending foolishly & irresponsibly (cars, trucks, boats etc etc.) This is where I have a huge problem with it.
That is a mess they created and for them to fix (pay for) not bankrupt and leave the burden for someone else. This is when they look for free lunches, health care, welfare etc etc.
People need to live within the financial barriers of their income & not try keeping up with others. If people were more responsible & disciplined in this area, we would have plenty to help those in true need without taxing the shit out of those who earn extra by working hard. Those who work very hard & have found a way to earn extra, should be rewarded by keeping it or sharing it as they wish & not paying for someone irresponsible. That is my main point.

WASHINGTON – Colorado looks like friendly territory for a Rand Paul presidential candidacy.

The Kentucky Republican senator would beat former Democratic Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 47 percent to 43 percent in Colorado in a 2016 White House match-up, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll. That is similar to findings in November, in which Paul had a 47-44 percent margin over Clinton.

Colorado has been considered an important swing state in recent presidential elections.

Neither Paul nor Clinton has said yet whether they will seek the presidency in 2016. Paul recently said he was “50-50″ on the race and would make a decision after this year’s mid-term elections in November.

Wait, someone posted something relevant?

I almost got mad at you for posting that stuff, and then I paused and re-read the title of this thread. :P

That's all he knows how to do. He and his two amigos, one of whom can't seem to accurately identify her major in college, and the other of which thinks 1.5% inflation is rampant.

Among other absolutely ludicrous statements they've made.

Hang in there, Sugarpie. This is what happens when ill-informed people get caught not putting any actual thought behind their statements. They have nothing else to use as a tool, so they lash out.

Don't take offense. Take it as the concession of a person unable to articulate it, and without the character to say it out loud.

After all, that's what it is.
