sure the US military should be bigger... but the way our government fucks us over so much and continues to take more and more away from the working american they are only gonna have more trouble getting recruits. they wouldnt take me 3 years ago for asthma (which went away when i was 6 or 7) and now they are knocking down my door trying to get me to go in. i think its a joke, our problem is the government. bastards...

they are there because they want to be.. they signed up for the military on a volantary basis then they got there orders.. now they may not want to be in iraq but still they had the option to not join the military..

with that said... i have no problems with our military... and sure it wouldnt hurt to let it get a bit bigger...

I know it may be tempting, but please try not to voice your political opinions in this post. All I want to know is what country you are from, and how you feel about your nation's military.

I am from the USA and feel my nations all volunteer military should be increased in size by 25%.

if our nations "volunteer" military is increased by 25% then where do we find 25% more volunteers?

Twenty years ago, the US military was voluntary and 50% bigger. Enlistment and retention bonuses were substantial, good training was very available, rank was a lot easier to get. All of these factors allowed us to have over 2 million in service without a draft.

The key here is to put the money into the people instead of the bases and gee-whiz systems. Regrettably, Congressmen get more donations from defense contractors and the unions who work for them than they do from servicepeople. Guess who gets the earmarks?

I'm from Canada. Living nex to the states, our military is very inferior feeling since our closes neighbour and friend spends about....50 times a year what we do.

That being said, our military is actually impressive when it works. Just needs some more funding and a real war to fight in.

Well, many here know where I'm from and what I think of our defence forces.

But to say few words, I'm very proud and happy with the Finnish defence forces.
The only negative thing I have to say goes out to our politicians, the army is not well-funded!

We need money to get good equipment and keep the huge army running to defence this land of ours.
Our nation is small in population, but huge in space, that's why we have a mandatory service in this country. And if your beliefs won't allow you to serve in the armed forces, you can serve either un-armed or in the civillian service. That shouldn't be so bad for anyone, but still some people choose to stain the heritage of our country and rather go to jail than do their service. If it was up to me, those people would be stripped from their social benefits and everything that this country gives them for free.

Our history has shown us how neigbours become enemies and hostiles that try to take over our land. That's why we must keep our defences in primo shape. Our army is a defence force, just as it's name says. We are not a threath to anyone. We are not hostile. We love peace and also help other countries upkeep peace as a part of UN where our men have also voluntarily served for decades.

I did my service with smile in my face and pride in my heart.
I've talked to many veterans who defended this nation against a better equipped war machine 10-times bigger than ours, and I have the greatest respect towards these people.

I hope you see why I love this country and it's defence forces and would be willing to give my life for it in a blink of an eye without any hesitation.

You'd have a lot more violence without military organizations. Guaranteed.

in my country, the military killed 30.000 people.
Most of that people had he same ideas i have

most of that people could have had let say 2 o 3 kids that would be my age now

so i could have 70.000 friends educated the way i was educated and thinking the way i think

therefore, i really dont like the military in my country

What do I think of my country's military.

If a veteran, or uniformed serviceman, or obvious military boy on-leave pulls up next to me at the gas pump, I will stick my credit card in his pump, shake his hand and thank him for his service.

If I do not see you at the pump, a hearty thank you from me, to all of you that have served. My family and I owe you much gratitude.

If we try to increase our nations military by 25% we would need to goto a draft system 25% would be hard target number to increase. Even with stop-loss being in place.
How I feel about the American Military is great I am proud to have served and I am proud of the men and women that put on the uniform everyday. Good or bad right or wrong we do it every day.

I read through some of these, and I have to agree with the majority. Forget the draft! keep what we have. Why train someone for 4-5 years to offer them to the civilian sector when all you need to do is work harder to retain. And being a United States Marine, I cannot thank you enough for your support. Im gearing up to go back to Iraq, again, in a few months, and its nice to get to hear some support. I wouldn't trade this job for the world, and I would not trade what good we may bring to Iraq in the future, for the world.
