ok I saw this tv program called 30 days, an American program maybe you all have seen that? I guy works for 30 days at minimi wage, well that got me an idea, well he had to pay for medical visit over 500 bucks,
when it´s here ALLMOST free, I think it´s about 15 euros.... well I think it´s an hell of a different from 500 to 15

Well I start from the bottom here in Finland:

If a 1 to 6 years old kid has daycare on the citys daycare center it cost to me 120 euros per month.

(this is based on how much you earn money per half year, I think minimi is about 80 euros and max is about 240 euros)

School start at the age of 7 years old(common) 1 class, and you have to stay at school when you are 15 years old, 9 grade. This time don´t cost you nothing the Finnish goverment is paying.
Real homemade food is served once everyday for free.

Dental service is free til you are 18 years old.

Medical service you pay 3 times a 15 euro after that it´s free.

Well this is just a few, have to go and make some Saturday popcorn with my kids now, this is a thing we have after the Sauna.

Im hopping someone can tell about there cost in your home country, thanks!

I'll sum it up for the US...

US - Everything related to physical care (health care, day care, retirement homes, etc...) costs more...

US - Pay is the highest in the world if you're willing to work for it...

US - Work hard and you can afford anything...

A German Professor of mine summed wages and costs up very well. "If you want to be rich you go to the US, if you want to be poor go to Europe."

That's a quote so don't kill the messenger.

In Denmark the prices of daycare vary from place to place, but this is from my county.

Daycare - 1-3 year olds about 375€ a month age 3-6 is about half of that.

School - Free (gymnasiums/universities etc included)

Dental - Free till your 18

Doctors - Always free

OK - just don't dare think that you might want to request a particular doctor - a thread quite a while back led to some pretty heated feelings about choice and freedom and government control: when the government controls it all and metes it out "equally", you take what they give you and shut up. Me? I'll gladly pay the higher cost and maintian some personal freedom of choice about going see whatever doctor I want to see.

You can see pretty much every doctor you want to. You can get every hospital treatment you need
But we pay enormous taxes. Pretty much everything is free though.

well ofcourse you have to pay taxes to get something back.

I get about 2000 euros every month for what I do, from that goes away taxes, about 300 euros and union paymenths(optional), then I pay retirement allowance and other payments so that the system works for everybody. My tax % is now 17.5 that isn´t a big % my friends has 27%, ok he earns much more then I.

in Greece the system works this way:high taxes(about 33%)plus more taxes if you have a higher income.if you have an income less than 12.000 Euros/year than it`s no taxes for you.medical care and education is free, but if you want to get things done and be treated like a human being than you have to go to the private sector...
Greek live in a trully blessed state!!

we pay too much damned tax..
i think with my income, im in the 30% bracket..
also have to pay a health care levy..

childcare is NOT free, and we have a childcare crisis right now....where its extremely difficult to find slots for your kids
although its not free, if youre on low income, you get it subsidised.

Dental is free, all through life...but specialist care and choosing when you get it done costs extra, from your pocket. Although you get it subsidised by the govt. Might differ between states. Most primary schools have dental surgerys IN school (well...in my state anyways, since allocation of health funds is done by the state) so kids have regular check ups without missing school.

Our health system is a universal health system...and in my opinion, its in the higher end of world systems. Its all free, BUT you have the option to get private cover to allow you the choice of doctor and extra perks in hospitals etc. Having private cover doesnt give you access to doctors or specialists others dont have, you just get to choose them and dont have to wait as long.

*in my city of 300k people, we have 5 major hospitals*

Medication is subsidised for all australians through the Pharmaceutical benefits scheme, making day to day medicines affordable by all. If youre on welfare or low income, the "health care card" makes nearly ALL medication under $10 AUS

School is free until college, then youre asked to contribute for the classes your children take. Higher education is subsidised, In my city we have CIT "canberra institute of technology" were things like Eng are taught. Semesters are around $600.
Uni is subsidised by govt, and you pay a portion (around 4-7k a year) back through taxes, no interest. You just have to meet and pass all the criteria to be accepted. You can be a full fee paying student, and you get accepted the same way as a non-full fee paying student. You just dont owe anything after

*where i live, we have 7 technical college campuses, and 3 major Universities*

It is very expensive to live in the U.S. Only about 45% of the people in the U.S. have health insurance. It is very wrong in my opinion. Companies have in the past provided health insurance for employees but that has changed dramatically in the past ten years. Special interest lobby groups representing the insurance companies and drug manufacturers have contributed greatly to politicians and effectively set up road blocks to insurance coverage for all and been allowed to increase charges dramatically. Who loses? During this same time the divorce rate has increased to about 50% making health insurance prohibitive to 55% of the American people. It is wrong! Our government has no problem spending 500 billion on a useless war in Iraq, paving their roads, building their schools and hospitals while turning their heads to the people that pay their taxes.

In the UK, all childern start school at the age of 4 or 5 years old. The have to stay in school until they're 16. ALL medical and dental treatment is free until they reach 16. If they stay in school afterwards, it's free until they are 18. A visit to your doctor is free, no matter what age you are. If you need medication, the government subsidises you, so you pay 6.90 (pounds) for each prescription.
There is a limit on the amount a dentist can charge you for a course of treatment, currently around 148.00 pounds I think (I haven't needed treatment for ages, so I'm not sure).
I work for the NHS and although it has some problems, I still think it's one of the best medical services in the world. It may not stay that way for much longer though
