stop bringing govt policies up, specially when its not your govt....and use it to badmouth others
and on that, its funny how ignorant some people are when it comes to what they believe they know about other countries.

the question was to talk about YOUR country, not bitch about others
Well the question was talk about costs of a certain type of services in your country, but they aren't comparable due to the political implications of each countries economic structure and governmental choices. This topic would have been better placed across the street.

I'll sum it up for the US...
A German Professor of mine summed wages and costs up very well. "If you want to be rich you go to the US, if you want to be poor go to Europe."
damn! i agree and don't at the same time. one can make a very good living in the US however at the same time there is alot of people that are below the poverty line.

The basis behind his comment was that if a person were willing to work hard the best place in the world to live was the US given the seemingly limitless earning potential (Ray Irani, W.Buffet, and B.Gates), but people have to be willing to work for their personal benefit as the US doesn't have good social systems for those who don't. The European comment wasn't meant as bashing Europe it was meant to say that the quality of life for people performing unskilled labor is vastly superior to that in the US (which comes from higher taxes).

I think we need to face facts here! it's possible to make more money in the u.k. then anywhere else in the world. If I was to move to the us (which i wont be anytime soon) my money would double because of the exchange rate. The best thing out government ever did was not join the euro. we pay between 20 - 30% taxes and for that we get health care and cheap dental care and everything else. If you want a better service than every1 else in the country you pay for everything out of your own pocket but for about 20% of the population thats possible. The average yearly wage in the u.k. is £25,000 thts equal to $50,000 US. Not to sure about every1 else
As for the pay averages the US census in 2004 mean (average) income was 60k USD or £30k with a medain income of around 45k USD. Moving from one place to another wouldn't double your money (it would in terms of a bank statement) because your purchasing power wouldn't double. For more info on US income go to
www.census.gov or see additions below.
