and on that, its funny how ignorant some people are when it comes to what they believe they know about other countries.

I don't know how true it is, but I did quite a bit of research for a report on the health care system in the UK and it sounded pretty scary from what I found out. Sounds like getting diagnostic tests... like if you think you have a certain type of cancer... are almost impossible to get on time. I've seen statistics saying that STDs are seeing a huge rise simply because people have to wait 3+ weeks to get into a clinic to be treated, which increases the length of time they're spreading the disease. I've heard that anyone in the country, citizen or not, can go to a clinic and be treated and that this has lead to very long waits for treatment, and very sub-standard overall medical treatment. Again, don't know if that's "really" how it is, but that's what I found out when I looked into it. If so, then I'm all for paying a higher price for health care that is more available and that can actually be preventative

Well the question was talk about costs of a certain type of services in your country, but they aren't comparable due to the political implications of each countries economic structure and governmental choices. This topic would have been better placed across the street.

The basis behind his comment was that if a person were willing to work hard the best place in the world to live was the US given the seemingly limitless earning potential (Ray Irani, W.Buffet, and B.Gates), but people have to be willing to work for their personal benefit as the US doesn't have good social systems for those who don't. The European comment wasn't meant as bashing Europe it was meant to say that the quality of life for people performing unskilled labor is vastly superior to that in the US (which comes from higher taxes).

If I was to move to the us (which i wont be anytime soon) my money would double because of the exchange rate. The best thing out government ever did was not join the euro. we pay between 20 - 30% taxes and for that we get health care and cheap dental care and everything else. If you want a better service than every1 else in the country you pay for everything out of your own pocket but for about 20% of the population thats possible. The average yearly wage in the u.k. is £25,000 thts equal to $50,000 US. Not to sure about every1 else

As for the pay averages the US census in 2004 mean (average) income was 60k USD or £30k with a medain income of around 45k USD. Moving from one place to another wouldn't double your money (it would in terms of a bank statement) because your purchasing power wouldn't double. For more info on US income go to www.census.gov or see additions below.

in Mexico health care is for everyone but you pay it with taxes so the more you earn the more you pay for health care, but the process is slow and most people ho can afford it go to private practice

Once again they aren't comparable because of the underlying politics of each country.

he is not asking to compare, but to be told what the figures, sums etc are for where you live...if you feel the urge to compare, thats fine, but thats not what he asked for in this thread. people just seemed to go off topic......not hard when its something like this though..

In Oxfordshire, UK ( all prices in £UK )

-daycare for a 3yr old - £575/month
-95RON unleaded fuel - £4.10 per gallon
-20 cigarettes - £5.50 ( thank fuck I don't smoke )
-Beer,18x330ml Heineken - £11.19 (bought some @ lunchtime today)
-2MB Internet - £12/month ( approx )
-40% INCOME TAX !!!

so if you have a V8 petrol car, a couple of under 5yr old kids, smoke 40 a day and drink you probably need to earn over £100,00 a year !

Incredibly a small 2-bed house is worth £250,000 !!!
