"I think the administration realizes that we're dealing with that rarest of things in President Obama's world, which is a military situation that has to be resolved militarily," said James F. Jeffrey, who was the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad when American troops withdrew from Iraq in 2011. The basic problem, Jeffrey said, is "these guys have to be stopped. And it's not a matter of whether the U.S. should stop them - it's a matter of when."

The article also states that we left Iraq because the Iraqi government wouldn't give our troops immunity from legal prosecution--like I said before. The Militants are slaughtering Christians. Telling them that they have to renounce their religion or be killed. Looks like Iraqi and Kurd troops are no match for these zealots. The leaders of Iraq are idiots. Obama really looks lost when it comes to foreign policy. One by one countries are falling into the hands of religious zealots and sometimes with our help. Bush 2 started the down fall and Obama is continuing the trend. Militants are pretty much entrenched now. We have 2 different worlds here. One is focused on rebuilding the worlds economy after the crash. The others--Russia, China, Muslim extremist, are focused on expansions through military force. No way can we let Iraq fall. So Obama underestimating these extremist was a big failure. No we don't want war. We can't afford it either. Obama waited until we are going to have to use more force than bombings here and there. What a mess the world is in! My opinion

We are still bombing them. 3 air strikes now and more to come. No time table has been set for it to end

So Obama is trying to get Iraq to form a unity government. The current leader of Iraq won't resign-- Maliki. May take a civil war to get him out. In the mean time ISIS is taking over the country
Allen_Bradley finds this awesome.

The Chinese and Russians are buying up the world gold supply and the Chinese Reminds is being recognized by more countries in the world that have trade agreements with China as a recognized currency to be used in trade between the countries. This effectively replaces.to.America Dollar ( or.should I.say Federal.Reserve currency) as the accepted reserve currency for trade. The Russians and Chinese signed a trade agree mentioned for, I belive 4.5 Billions dollars worth of natural gas. The normal currency for.these exchanges in the greenback but this deal.was.done.entirely in Rubles and Renimbies. Your in trouble folks because you and your government is indebted to the Federal.Reserves through loans from.the Reserve to remind in bonds which are issued in your name via the government to the privately owned Federal Reserve. In a nutshell, as long as you are privy to.this arrangement you are fucked.Iraq is just another profit making opportunity for something......

That was a bad deal for the Russian gas company. I don't think it will pay for a good bit of the infrastructure needed to get the gas to China. The Chinese are very frugal. The government paid back some on the over all national debt in July. The government is bring in more revenue due to the improving economy.
The government also has a huge stock pile of Oil it could sell overseas. They stopped selling over seas way back in the Jimmy Carter days after the middle east embargo. Vast reserves of Natural Gas.
Iraq going down would be bad for the world. Saudi Arabia right next door would be the next target or Kuwait. Then you have the terror these people are capable of exporting

Actually, you might want to do some research on the Ottoman Empire. Particularly from 1700 to the end of WWI, in 1914.

It wasn't that long ago that all of these different ethnicities lived together in relative harmony and successfully governed one of the greatest superpowers the world has ever seen (relative to its time).

And yes, I mean Jews too. This region has always had a lot of Jews - this is where they started after all.

Well stated Tarquin. Except for the problems the Turks caused for the Armenians, that region was doing fairly well during the time period you quote. Their downfall really started when the Russians wanted Black Sea ports and initiated some hostilities to get them. They traded for the influence of several western European countries involvement in the Crimea, and before we knew it, WW 1 ensued. The rest is recent history and well documented -- resulting in the treaty engaged by the British and French that partitioned most of the current countries across business interests instead of cultural interests. That's where the more recent problems started.
