On cable The Sopranos was the best of all time!!

True Blood is a close second!!

On network tv, the best is Steven King's "The Stand"!!

And The 4400!!

Seriously, I am a history nut and this time period is intersting. They get the news about the Titanic by telegraph but during the season telephones are put in and the butler goes through a major crisis wondering how to use the thing.

Some cast members worry about "vapors" from the electrcity they have installed and they talk about how one household had it even in the kitchen to which everybody responds "what for?" or "what is the point"? There is no power grid so they have "a man" to run the generator.

Automobiles are starting to become more common and the father frets over the heavy traffic having seen 3 cars in town.

A maid is found to have a typewriter and the rest of the household staff stares at it as if it is some foreign object.

Granted most of the charactres are sniveling, whining biatches except for Maggie Smith who has the best lines in the series

Gotta say the writings gone a bit odd, but it's still a good show!

Anyone seen torchwood? The new series was good. But the older series were awesome. Tbh the new series was too 'American' for me...

Only things I watch on network television is the local news, and Fear Factor, when they don't cancel the damn thing because they have chicks drinking donkey semen and the network is afraid it will be to gross for people to watch

More Honorable Mentions (I thought the last list of honorable mentions didn't have enough comedies): Seinfeld, The Simpsons, The X-Files, The Daily Show, Cheers, Married with Children, The Cosby Show, The Sopranos, King of the Hill, Arrested Development & King of the Hill.

I see The Sopranos on a lot of lists here, and well, it was a decent enough show, and at the time I thought it was great. But then The Wire was made and it just blows the Sopranos out of the water.

There's a reason The Wire is on pretty much every critic ever's list of top 10 series' of all time.

Never seen the wire. Don't think it's out over here. I'll have a download.....

Best cartoon ever was the original Jonny Quest (Not that Real adventures garbage). How can you beat a show taht managed to get jet packs, a bazooka and a pterodactyl? It was so good it was considered too violent by some.

Oddly enough, Detective McNulty, the main star of the show, is a Brit.

Speaking of Brits as main stars, people over here rave about House. I've never seen it, but it's sposed to be good. I also heard somewhere that Hugh Laurie is now the worlds highest paid tv actor because of it.

It depends on how you use it I guess, everything in moderation I always say.

BTW, a lot of the shows being mentioned were made for cable so what's the difference? TV is TV.

Precisely.

Did anyone watch "Wiseguy" back in the 80's with a guy named Ken Wahl? He was an undercover DEA, infiltrating a drug ring run by Kevin Spacey. It was damn good, but Ken ran into alcohol problems and the show never recovered. That was a real fave for a long time, but it seems very few people caught it.

80's tv shows???

Surely that's a different thread altogether........

I loved TJ Hooker!

..Ahh, the 80's.... You just haven't lived unless you once asked "Who shot JR?"

I was a bit young for that, but remember my mom loving it.

The A team and Knight Rider were also amazing!
