the last four and a half minuets or so of lynyrd skynyrd's free bird is pretty good. Also the original "inna-gadda-da-vida" is a good one if you want to go really oldschool.

I agree, Eruption is the solo that dawned a new era in rock guitar. EVH is the second, maybe 3rd most influential guitar player of the last 40 years. First there's Hendrix, then Page, then Van Halen. I would go so far to say that not only the solo Eruption, but the ENTIRE first Van Halen album changed rock music forever. That album is chock full of so many mind blowing solo's. Songs like I'm the One, On Fire, Atomic Punk... the song list speaks for itself. Think about it, before Van Halen 1 was released, what guitar player played anything like that? Nobody. Vai, Satriani, and Malmsteen wouldn't have careers if weren't for Eddie Van Halen innovating and popularizing that style of playing. The real key to VH's genious is not just his guitar playing and innovation, but his songwriting ability. It is often overlooked, but Van Halen, the band, has more #1 hits, top ten hits, and #1 albums than any other rock band in history, including Zeppelin, Aerow Smith, Metallica, Nirvana, Motley Crue, and any other group you can think of. I can't believe they were not inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame the first year they were eligible, that is a travesty.

Sorry for the rant...

Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia, John Maclaughlin, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Justin King. The top guitarists of all time (and, of course, their solos are unreal).
