It's not becoming popular at all...the failed attempt at a women's pro league finally got axed...the men's league should be soon to follow...it just can not catch on in America...they're tried decade after decade, just can't cut into the market share with football's booming popularity due to gambling and fantasy sports

In some high schools here lacrosse and rugby are even bigger than soccer. It'll never surpass basketball, baseball, or american football though.

We've had some danish players in the states, and they compared it to some second division in europe. I guess that why it's not that interesting to watch in the states.

ok, ok, here we go again, there are AMERICAN"S playing in champions league soccer i.e. Brian McBride and others, they do come here and play against our MLS teams on occassion and honestly they are NO BETTER ON AVERAGE than our guys, MLS has won some and the CHAMPIONS league has won some, so learn your sport stats better!

rugby isn't even on the same level as FOOTBALL , in terms of violence, brutality, athleticism or intelligence. that's why the NFL is the most popular sport in AMERICA now-a-days, with baseball right on it's heels and basketball and NASCAR tied for 3rd

so if you feel AMERICAN FOOTBALL is rugby for pussies, then i envite you to come get cracked, then moan and sob on your flight home, from the pain that got inflicted on your ass!

oh.....and devil-hair.....to answer your question!

SOCCER IS NOT GETTING ANYMORE POPULAR IN THE STATES.......unfortunately i think it's popularity peaked in the late 90's and was never HUGE anyway,
to show as an example, there have been no soccer games on television in my area EVER and i live in Columbus, OHIO home of a pretty good MLS team, the only way to watch soccer here is if you order a "season pass" on cable

hope that doesn't dissappoint you too much

They show it on ESPN or FOX Sports every once in a while.

"Soccer is on the way"..... they have been saying that here in the states for the past 20 years. Soccer IS growing among youth leagues and at the high school level..... but as far as gaining interest on TV or with the general public...interest is as low as it's ever been... football and NASCAR have the american public's attention

Also is REAL (American) football is ruby for Pussies eh, then why don't we see more ruby players who maybe are not the top players coming to america and dominating our sport. morabu thanks for writing the bulk of what I was going to say. Like you I also live in Columbus Ohio where the Columbus Crew play and they normally don't even may the sports reel on the local news in the evening. Also correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there and NFL Europe and haven't I seen it on ESPN or Fox sports where the stadiums are sold out?

Ive played both rugby and american football, and yes american football is hard, very hard... but believe me, it doesnt even slightly compare to rugby. whilst in american football they'll tear ya helmet off, in rugdy, they'll tear ya face off, or any other body part they can lay their hands on.

Why does every soccer discussion turn into bash American Football...who gives a fuck, you like what you like, I like what I like. I like brunettes, you may like blondes...doesn't mean either is better...beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

For some odd reason soccer has not become popular in America...I can tell you the exact reasons why football has become insanely popular, gambling and fantasy sports...also the attention span is smaller, you have your 6 second play, then 40 seconds to stop paying attention...with soccer it's 90 minutes of go time basically...baseball follows this kinda as well...1 on 1, pay attention for a bit zone out for a few seconds...I dunno...just stop all this us vs. them BS (and that's us not US)

they will never understand it.... wasted time to talk about. its only sad that they will never have the feeling about standing in a 65.000 crowd and support your team.

Oh yes, when I hear "soccer" and "fighting" I immediately remember one guy : Eric Cantona.... that was really fun
Does anybody remember when he jumped feet first on a guy behind a barrier?
