Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Sunday of an apparent drug overdose, law enforcement sources said.
Police said Hoffman, 46, was found on the bathroom floor and pronounced dead at the scene.

Yeah, I felt pretty sad about it until I heard it was an overdose. It's sad to lose such an amazing talent to something so meaningless. Then I was just disappointed.

He's had trouble with alcohol and drugs in the past. Went through rehab. Unfortunately, it looks like he went back to it.
He was a brilliant, brilliant actor. My heart goes out to his partner & three children. So sad

I was just sad in general. I don't care about his recreational activities, and I'm not going to judge him for it. To me i's just as tragic as if he'd died of a heart attack or car accident.
We lost one of my favorite actors today, and that sucks, regardless of the reason.

This really sucks. One of my favorite actors. Pretty much every movie he was is was awesome. They could probably make a Weekend at Bernies 3 with him playing Bernie and he would probably still win an Oscar. What an unfortunate loss.
It sucks for his family, not him. Too bad he was so selfish as to chose drugs/alcohol over his family, I have no sympathy for those types. Unfortunately the media loves to repeatedly put these movie stars/musicians on a pedestal and perpetuate the problem.

You have apparently never made a mistake. Nor have you ever known anyone who had struggled with substance abuse. Good for you.
Some antidepressants have the same withdrawal effects as heroin also.
The wife is trying to get off cymbalta, she's been on it for 2 years, we've made 2 trips to the hospital because of horrible withdrawal symptoms, shaking, blurry vision, headaches, nausea, vomiting, I could go on, but I won't. My point, like Davey, even if prescribed by a doctor, your aren't assured to not have drug problems.
Side note, cymbalta is FUCKING EVIL, my advice for anyone with depression issues, see a good therapist and stay the fuck away from antidepressant drugs!!!
You gotta watch out for a lot of those anti-depressants. My ex was bipolar and she took a strange cocktail of medication that seemed to change from month to month. It was constantly changing because of the side effects the medications would have. Some would work fine but if you took them in conjunction with another type, you could experience harmful effects. Unfortunately for some people, medication is warranted. I agree it should be the last option once everything else has been tried but some people truly can't function without it. Thankfully there's nothing that a good alcohol blackout can't fix for me.
I get that even prescription drugs administered by doctors can become highly addictive, but ultimately the user has to accept personal responsibility. I have had numerous surgeries in the past and have been prescribed all kinds of different pain killers, but I take very little, if any, because I know the addictive side affects. Society now days has a very difficult time accepting ANY personal responsibility and is always looking to point fingers, but it all boils down to the individual in the end. No one is going to look after you like YOU.
