It's time for BDD to have a big fuck off HD TV in his life but what are the pro and cons of Plasma and LCD. Money not really a problem as I got between £1000 and £1500 with anything left over going on a xbox 360 maybe.

Like they say, big inches, plasma.
Smaller inches, LCD.

The quality of plasma is way better than LCD compared to the size of the screen. Over 40" screens in plasma please.

Get a HD projector and a Screen much more fun, but make sure you have a room you can make totally dark for watching stuff and get a high quality 72" screen or similar... then get the xbox 360 (or wait and get ps3) and hook that up

The biggest flaw with the plasma is something that the manufacturers don't like to talk about.
The "plasma" gas that produces the image actually looses brightness and image clearity over time.
This happens from two different processes; the "plasma" loses luminosity in a process akin to a light bulb that fades due to the thinning of the filament. The second process is "gassing out"... sort of like when a helium balloon slowly gets smaller and sinks to the floor due to the molecules slowly working their way through the fabric of the balloon, the "plasma" in the TV does the same thing which results in the loss of image brightness and clearity. I good name brand Plasma TV will generally last 2-2.5 years of heavy use before this happens and will last about 5years regardless. So it really depends on what your thoughts are regarding product longevity... myself, my last TV was a proffessional grade CRT Television that lasted 10 years and I bought it used for 50$USD. Great picture up until the day it was destroyed in my house fire.
The problems I have with LCD's are the way the image distorts when you are at an angel to the screen, the fact that they put out an enormous amount of heat and that bright ambient light fades the picture. I don't know about their longevity becuase LCD's are relativly fragile and generally are messed up by accident or mistreatment long before the components actuallt wear out.
Hope this helps,

Z

I have both. Can't really tell the difference. The only thing I have noticed is that the LCD pixelates easier and more often with a slight loss in signal strength.

I also say to get a projector and a nice screen. More bang for the buck. I have one that is 109" across and you feel like you are right there in the middle of it. Total sensory overload. Make sure it is a DLP one and make sure you have a good screen with it. Another benfit is you can hide it better in a multi purpose room. They are also cheaper on the power bill and cooler temp wise to operate.

The next part is have you ever watched porn on a 100+" screen with digital surround. The neighbors hate it but the wife loves it.

If your gonna play games for long periods of time with it, get the LCD. Plasma has a higher image burn-in rate than LCD's do.

I've got a Panasonic 42" plasma, had it for nearly 2 years and it still looks incredible. Love it!

Don't worry about the "gas thing that no-one talks about" it's a load of bollox.

you won't have any effects of the gas issue yet, it generally takes 5-6 years for the gas to burn out!

My opinion, go for the LCD option, I got one and it's brilliant!

I have a 56" JVC LCD that I love! There is no way I would buy a plasma screen TV, too many possible problems and too much money.

why not get a huge projector and just watch porn from your yard by flashing it on the moon...how awesome would that be...have everyone over drinking, say "hey! watch this!" and the next thing you know half the world is watching porn with you.

that would be intense...

but what about the day time?

what he needs is some sort of sun blocking device and a giant fake moon so that there is always one moon to be projected upon.
