This is only political if you consider (for the most part) jingoism political. I think it has less to do with politics than it has to do with nationalism. People inherently believe the system they are a part of is better than that of others. You see this on display all over the internet, especially when it comes to people who may be ill informed or know little of international politics. Not saying any of that applies here, of course!

I am not sure about what part of the concept of "unconditional surrender" you do not understand.

While Hirohito was allowed to remain emperor, the surrender was unconditional.

Maybe everyone should also remember that we beat the germans to using a bomb only by half a year to a year. If we hadn't, who would Hitler had used his on? Moscow, London, New York or Washington? If we hadn't, they would have and the world would be a darker place for it. Don't forget that. Both sides lost millions of people. Wars are never won by words or nice
feelings. Be thankful we still live in a world of different countries and languages instead of one giant swastika.

there was a great article about hiroshima not too long ago in time magazine , interveiws with survivors and the crew of the bomber . the massive loss of innocent lives was sickening and truely inhumane .

And I can only reply that I am disappointed that people feel the need to disagree with something that is said, yet they make no attempt to confront the valid issues posed by others.
