Help with Wireless Network

I have a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN wireless card and a Belkin 54g wireless router. The problem I am experiecing is my computer keeps disconnecting from my router. I've already tried updating my wireless card. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the peanut butter trick yet?

There is no new firmware update available for this Router!

nope about 6 feet away!

Make sure the power saver setting on the Wireless card is cut off. Also, check the Event Viewer to see if it is giving a reaosn for the drop. Maybe something is hoggin resources or the card is attempting some autonegotiate thing and is losing it.

Try changing the channel where your WLAN is on.
It might be interference due to other wireless networks nearby.
I'm having the same problems all the time, there are 5 other WLANs in my proximity in our building, and I have to check my neighbours' networks all the time to get a good channel with no interference.

Install NetStrumbler to your computer and check other networks around, and try to change channels to something else....

It says im not connected but its lettin me on the net for about 10mins then cuts off???

Do you have WEP or WPA protection on your network?

My personal experience is that if you use WPA (which is safer), your network is much more likely to suffer outages due to interference. I had my network working without problems with WEP as long as I wasn't on same channel with anyopne, but when I changed to WPA, I suffer outages when I have another network on a close channel!

WLAN has 13 channels available here, and you need to have 5 between (1-7-13) if you don't want interference at all from other networks. It's also possible to have 4 channels (1-5-9-13) with only small amount of interference....

So if your problems are because of other stations interfering, your best bet is to search for the most powerful signals nearby, and choose your own channel as far away from them as possible.

it might actually be the belkin router (past experience with them as having crappy wifi). but i agree with wit. try channels 1, 11, and 6.

or, seeing as how you're only 6 feet away, try a 3 meter cable...

Are you using a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone or is there a microwave in the area? Both these items work on the same freq and will cause you to drop.
