i recently got my firearms license and was wondering if there were any other gun enthusiasts 'round here. i'm just getting into shooting and was looking at (for my first) the winchester wildcat (a rimfire .22) with a decent bushnell scope, nothing serious though. anyone ever shot one? any other suggestions?

any insight about shooting, guns, etc. would be much appreciated.

thanks.

No guns here, but I've always wondered how hard it is to buy get them in Canada.

I remember we used to have that bullshit gun registration law a while back..

my advise to you would be find a local club and ask them for help!
i think you are from Canada, and i,m sure they have restrictive Laws.

I have a Remington .22 long rifle. Love to plink with it. For serious shooting I usually shoot my .38 Smith & Wesson Model 10. I love to shoot my 30-06 but ammo is a bit expensive.

Make sure you know your local laws pertaining to owning, transporting, and shooting. A fun pastime can inadvertently cause unnecessary grief if you get caught not doing things the correct way.

One other thing...the local gun range I shoot at has guns that you can rent. Anything from various types of .22 all the way up to a .50 hand cannon. That might be an option to consider if a handgun purchase is in your future. Unfortunately, I've never found a range that rents long guns.

My best friend's a licensed dealer here in the states, though I'm not nearly as into them. I agree with the posters talking about local clubs/laws. The clubs probably more-so, cause they can help you figure out the legalities...

As for the rifle, it depends on what you're using it for. My friend the dealer has a slew of AR-15s of various calibers and then some pistols that he shoots the most (a .22 AR-15 and a .45 pistol, can't remember the model, are his favorite).

On the other hand, a mutual friend of ours makes fun of us for being target shooters, as he's a trap shooter himself with a nice benelli 20 gauge.

Basically, hit the club before you start throwing to much money around, ask if you can borrow other guys guns and see what fits well with you. Most clubs I've been exposed to are a little scary to walk up to (I mean, 20 guys standing around comparing guns...), but are really nice and welcoming once you say hi.

Don't own a rifle.

But I've bested two trained marksmen on the ...two occasions I've had the opportunity to shoot though.

I've wanted to buy one for several years to get into shooting.

Maybe a pistol, I'm not particularly good with a pistol.

notech, we are the same age and I also started about the same age. (being a farm boy with plenty of room to hunt and shoot). winchester lever actions are a good fire arm along with Marlins and I now own two mossberg 22 rim fire semiautomatics that were made about the time I was born and are in mint condition and they are excellent guns.

Ruger makes a nice line of 22 rimfires that are nice starter firearms. below is a link to their .22 LR line

Ruger 22 Rimfires

Savage, as mentioned earlier is really starting to make some good rifles. The most notable being the 10FP in .308 with the accutrigger. It is a very nice sniping rifle in the NATO .7.62 (308). Below is a link for their .22 line.

Below is a link to a vendor that has some pretty good prices on optics.
Optics Planet

This is what I have for one of my AR's, it is the Bushnell Elite.

If you want hit me offline. I am more into the AR-15, AR-10 model as well as bolt guns and handguns. I can also point you to a few forums I am an active member on.

I was fortunate to be given my father-in-law's Brno Model 1 about 9 years ago. I absolutely love this rifle. There's nothing fancy about it; it's lightweight but tough, reliable and smooth action and stays dead accurate - I've added a basic Nikko Stirling sight which does the job just fine. It's envied by many a gun owner but it's the one gun I will never ever part with it!!

I've heard that the Brno model 2 is a very good rifle too - tough and accurate and reliable. They're all bolt action, but that's all we're allowed these days here in Oz.
If you can find a good clean one of these Brno's I can only recommend them.

If you stick to any of the big brand .22's you really can't go wrong. Take the good advice to go talk to members at a club - many club members will be happy to let you try their guns. Enjoy!

I own several firearms myself and also everyone in my family that I can think of..even my mom. Winchester is a good company but they are slowly shutting down production. Ruger and Remington make excellent firearms also. Most of my guns are Remington and i've NEVER had any problems with one. As for the scope..bushnell is good..check out leupold also. I love their products. Also since it's a .22 you don't want anything super power scope wise. I'd go for a 2.5-7 or 3x10 but nothing stronger

.223's are a kick to shoot. Ammo for them is still pretty cheap and they've got a lot more range than a .22. I've owned guns since I was a kid and I'm seriously considering getting one.

A .22 is almost a must considering they're dirt cheap to buy and shoot, talk to anyone who owns guns and chances are that's what they've started with and most of them still own one.

surely was

it stated my opinion about guns.
I dont see the need to carry a gun (or even a knife) in a civilized culture.

I am from a country with lot of robbery and killings. you come from a country with lot of gun accidents.
I guess that is the difference and why you support guns and i dont.
In your case, it's accidents, in mine, it mostly robberies gone bad. Still amazing that I am the one who despises guns and you support them.

Politics were banned from WBW for a long time (not sure if that changed or not with the new sub forum called the panel) I would love to see guns banned too. just as we probably cant make a thread about "hey i am thinking of buying on ounce of cocaine, any advices?", I would love to see threads like this one erradicated from WBW.

that is waht I have to say, and probably more if you keep asking but I thought an <img> eas worth a thousand words as they say.

ps. it surprises me to see that attittude on a WBWcrew badge holder.

Your response had nothing to do with what the OP asked as with the thread I made. So you made the thread political not the other way around.

With regards to my attitude, don't thread crap and you won't see my attitude. If you would like to take this to PM's I will be MORE than happy to do so.
