Springfield armory is a favorite of mine. I own a Springfield 40 XD handgun, a Springfield 1911 A1 (45) handgun, A Walther P22 handgun and a Rueger 10/22 with a tasco scope. All great fairly affordable and reliable. I also have a concealed carry permit in my state.

I'll address Budokan first, as I was originally surprised that nobody had posted/said anything 'anti-gun'. I can fully understand where you are coming from. I myself was EXTREMELY against guns and weapons of any sort really. For many years I believed they were the bane of our existence-and they are- but that is not the point. I agree that in a civilized society there should be absolutely no need for any sort of weapons whatsoever. When I take a look around, though, I don't find myself to be living in a civilized society. Sure North America is leaps and bounds away from the level of crime maintained by some South American countries (Brazil, etc. comes to mind), but that doesn't mean we're completely devoid of it. You say that most of our gun deaths are via accidents, which is untrue, but all the same. As a human being I have the right to defend myself and my family. Some areas not 20 minutes from my house I wouldn't walk through alone at night (well also keep in mind i'm white with a shaved head so i'm not generally accepted in many circles).

All of that rambling is beside the point even. I would never turn a gun on another person unless one was upon me first. Is there a problem with responsible, good people owning guns? I take anything concerning firearms very seriously, because no matter how you look at it, they are dangerous. I know this, and I respect them for this. I want to shoot targets and blow up cans. That's all. I don't want to rob anybody or shoot anybody. The thought of it makes me sick in fact, and I suppose that's how I can relate to you now. I understand your objection to guns, but you're going to have to deal with them. The sad fact is that there are millions of them out there. You cannot change this simply by pushing it away. It is unfortunate that so many are used for the absolute wrong purpose where you come from, but that's life.

If you'd like to talk further, I'm all ears.

And thanks to everyone for your insight and advice. I've found two gun shops en route to my shooting destination so I think I'll go in and shop around a little. Gonna start small, and am considering the .223 someone posted about.

Also, to whoever as a concealed carry permit, may i ask why? Just interested is all.
