I had the same thing happen to me about ten years ago. . .This is what it was to me: Fluid Build Up on the back of my eye. Fluid built up and I developed these 'sacs' that were reflected in my vision. It was a simple laser proceedure to get it taken care of. . .it was due to stress. I've had no recurrences since. . .good luck!

Sorry for the edit above, I posted mine before you edited yours.

I know where you're coming from, I hate to go to the doctor too. Like you said, ignorance is bliss, but I'm not sure how that plays out when someone ends up realizing their quality of life has permanently changed when it could likely have been prevented. Anyway, hopefully the doc will have a simple solution.

Glad to hear of a less terrible possibility. Thanks.

I still don't know whether or not they can on their own for sure but I've decided to give it till Friday to improve or I'm just gonna have to at least go get a doctor to tell me if I need to be worried or not.

While trauma can cause a detached or torn retina, it can also be idiopathic (no known cause). And as has been said in the thread, a detached or torn retina is a serious medical issue that is worth a trip to the doctor's office. I get the whole 'strong like bull' attitude, but it can really be an issue if it causes permanent damage to your eye, which is a huge deal. I'm glad Kanzen has talked you into getting it checked out.

I've never heard of anybody gettin cataracs at 27 when their vision has been perfect up until that point. Is that even possible? I thought cataracs were kind of an old peoples thing.

Yeah, if it was a sudden onset, it's not a cataract.

For the vast majority of cases, it's an old people issue, as the lens gets cloudy over time. There are a few things that can cause younger onset cataracts - genetic conditions, eye-herpes , and lepracy, but a cataract is a breakdown of the proteins that make up the lens of the eye, and that only happens over a period of time; it doesn't just appear one day out of the blue.

Retinal issues are more likely, because they can be sudden, whether it's a tear allowing the vitreous fluid to build up behind your retina, or a peeling up of the retina itself. Of course, I'm diagnosing your eye over the internet and I'm just going from my personal medical knowledge/human structure & function classes, etc, as I haven't gone to med school or anything (yet), so take that for what it's worth.

Also, check your PMs Swiss.

It sounds stupid but I always feel like a pussy going to a doctor for anything. Even things I know could potentially be serious. Especially bein as broke as we are I just think about all the money I'm spending on myself when it could be better used for other things. In my twisted ass head that makes me selfish and weak. I know it's a fucked up way of thinking

It could have been scratched while you were sleeping. My sister had no problems with her eyes until one day
she woke up with that exact problem. She went to the docs and the doc said she had a detached retina due to
a scratch.

I'm glad you are gonna do something about it. It's serious business.

My money's on a scratched cornea (corneal abrasion, to sound fancy like EL ), but I'm with everyone else- I hope you get it looked at!

I tend to self-diagnose just as much as anyone else, but when it comes to a change in vision or hearing, you bet your ass I'm looking for professional help ASAP... two things that can be permanently damaged pretty easily.

Well here's an update for those who care. I didn't go to a doctor yet. Yeah I know. Go to doctor ASAP and all that but hey life gets in the way sometimes. My dog got violently sick AGAIN on Friday and so I had to take her to the vet which took all the money I had planned to use for the eye doctor and much more.

Either way in about a week or so there's supposed to be a "prevent blindness" thing where a bunch of eye doctors are doing free eye exams for whoever shows up, so I figure I'll go to that thing just to find out what's wrong.

Currently the eye has gotten no better or no worse. I think my left eye is actually compensating and taking over more of the vision duties because I can see better then I could when it first started although the spot is still there and hasn't improved in my right eye.

Sorry, bro. I wish I got checked too but I love my dog and since her life was in danger and mine isn't I had to make a decision on which one of us went to the doctor and which one of us waited.

Believe me I know how stupid that sounds to most normal people but I don't have much left in life at this point except my wife and my dog and right now losing an eye sounds better then losing either of them.

@HighGuy: She's doin ok right now. She had pyometra(sp?) which is an infection of the uterus right before Christmas. They got her back to normal with antibiotics but scheduled surgery to remove the uterus in early February. She ha the surgery and her uterus was supposedly pretty nasty and full of infection according to the vet. I brought her home and everything was fine for 2 days then she got crazy sick so I took her back. Turns out when they removed the uterus some of the infection probably leaked out and infected her somewhere else so now she's back on antibiotics and laying next to me relaxing right now. I had to take her back for an antibiotic shot this morning and one more tomorrow morning.

Dogs can be like one of the family, so very understandable if their life is in danger. Hope the antibiotics clear everything up.

Hope the doggie gets better!
I can't believe as a Medical Professional---Radiological Technologist(B.Sc.) that I forgot about CRNP(Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner) who many times can do good old house calls! These nurses usually have Master's Degree in nursing+ and are allowed to diagnose(under the auspices of an/a MD/DO) and they can usually prescribe medications as well.
In my area of PA, there are tons of them who can do house calls, I'd call the local hospital, nursing agencies like Bayada, check Yellow Pages for CNRP, Walk in redi-quick treatment places, your local pharmacy...

Just throwing the idea out there....
