Blurry spot in my right eye. What the hell?

Today I've got some fucked up blurry spot dead center in my right eye. I can't figure out what the hell it is. If I close my right eye I see everything fine. If I close my left eye I can see the blurry spot more clearly. This spot is small and is dead on whatever I'm looking at (it's always centered).

Looking at big things like TV or just general objects it's not even noticeable but focusing on something small like text is a bitch and my eyes are having trouble even focusing correctly on the letters because of this spot.

I've rinsed my eye, rubbed it, looked it in and I don't see anything in there. Anybody have any thoughts on what the hell this could be or what I could do to fix it? It's starting to drive me insane.

I wear contact lenses that will occasionally develop a film of protein that can blur them. Usually, I have to replace them or at least rinse and rub them with a cleaning sollution. Not sure if it can develop on a naked eye but I'd think about making an appointment with an optimologist.

Go to a eye doctor ASAP!! It could be nothing, BUT, it could be a detached retinia. Don't take a chance.

could be a broken blood vessel, doctor ASAP!!

Yeah I agree with Buns90, it sounds like the early symptom of Retina detachment. Go to an Opthamologist, immediately.

See an ophthalmologist asap! Could be nothing, could be a retinal detachment. Could be an ocular migraine. Eye Dr asap

Well I appreciate all the answers. Hopefully it's just one of those stupid floaters.

I live in the US and I've been unemployed for 2 months and haven't had health insurance at any point in my life so going to a doctor is totally out of the question.

Some of you may or may not have seen my posts in other threads about health insurance and doctors but my general stance in life is I'd rather be dead than paying a ridiculous doctors bill. Even if it is a detached retina or whatever I'm sure that requires surgery and I'd rather cut my own eye out then deal with that kinda debt. My motto toward doctors is basically "physically dead is better than financially dead."

Thanks for the opinions though! Anybody know what ends up happening if it this retina detaching thing? Eventually my eye just turns off or falls out or what? Luckily I have 2 eyes so I've got a spare just in case. I'm 27 by the way and have always had perfect vision if that matters at all.

Dude, don't mess around with your vision. You can go to Sears optical or Walmart for an exam. It's not that expensive. Besides very few people have eye insurance. Trust me, I have to pay an arm and a leg for contact lenses cause I'm blind as fuck but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and pay for shit.

It's not an issue of bein cheap it's about not havin 2 nickels to rub together right now. This recession or whatever you wanna call it hit me like a ton of bricks. I've had a job since I was 14 years old until 2 or 3 months ago. Shit, it's a miracle I'm keepin this roof over my head right now. I'd rather have 1 eye and a house then 2 eyes and a refrigerator box. Plus I've got people who count on me to hold things together and I can't let them down and make them homeless over my own stupid eye.

What's really the point of getting an exam when there's no cheap solution? From the research I've done the only 2 options are either "it will go away on it's own or it requires surgery" so basically it's either gonna go away or the solution is gonna be way the hell too much to even bother with. Then I have to know I've got this huge problem with no way to fix it. Ignorance is bliss as they say and it's true. Ya can't worry about somethin if ya don't know you have it.

Damnit Swiss, stop being so hardcore.

Come on over to Canada and I'll let you borrow my health card.

Good thing that health care reform is all fucked up now, not to get all political outside the Panel but..man America sucks at some stuff.

Let me be the first to ask the "friends means no bullshit" question - If you refuse to do anything about it, why ask? Why not just keep it to yourself.

Just FYI - if you lose the use of your "spare" eye, you lose depth perception, and the ability (as well as the privelege) of driving. Is it worth a life of taxi's and bumming rides from your friends? Stop being foolish. Do SOMEthing. No one wants to see you lose an eye.

I asked cause it could be something simple. Not every problem needs a doctor. MANY times throughout my life something has been wrong with me and the majority of people were all "go to the doctor right now" and I never went and things got better. Hell somebody could've had a real simple answer for it or been like "yeah that happens to me all the time, give it 3 or 4 days and it'll be gone."

So the point of asking was to see if this is a known common simple problem or to see if it was a known medical disaster. Basically it's one of those "it could be anything" kind of things.

Kanzen PM'd me and pretty much convinced me I should do something about it. So I guess on Friday if it isn't better I'm gonna have to go get it checked out. Until then all I've got to pay a doctor with is monopoly money and they tend to frown on that

I can't help being so hardcore, if that's what you wanna call it. I was raised to believe that men aren't supposed to be whiney babies about shit and that we're supposed to sacrifice everything for our family without complaining. I think I took that all to heart a little too much and a lot of times I'm almost looking for a fire to walk through or a bullet to catch rather than just doing it when necessary.

Thanks everybody for at least trying to talk some sense into my thick head.

No improvement or worsening this morning. It's exactly the same as it was yesterday.

I was under the impression that for a retina to detach it had to have some kind of trauma to it. Like getting punched incredibly hard or getting in a car accident or something. I didn't think they could just do it on their own for no reason at all. I still don't know whether or not they can on their own for sure but I've decided to give it till Friday to improve or I'm just gonna have to at least go get a doctor to tell me if I need to be worried or not.

It sounds stupid but I always feel like a pussy going to a doctor for anything. Even things I know could potentially be serious. Especially bein as broke as we are I just think about all the money I'm spending on myself when it could be better used for other things. In my twisted ass head that makes me selfish and weak. I know it's a fucked up way of thinking

i'm like you swiss, i avoid docs at all (usually ridiculous) cost. but i disagree on this one dude, it's not just a case of either nothing or surgery, it's a case of something - like an eye infection - you could catch early enough to stop it being a massive issue. (you get some antibiotics it goes away, you don't and it could escalate and do permanent damage). i'm with honda, get yourself up to canada or go in somewhere where they give free eye tests and pretend like you're thinking maybe you need glasses and at least see what they say.

and i'm also with honda on US healthcare. it's absurd that we live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world but are so beholden to a few selfish corporations that we leave tens of millions of people to suffer with serious health issues. that's some fucked up shit and we should all be trying to change it. doesn't matter what your other philosophies on life may be, you shouldn't want anyone anywhere to suffer because your douchebag of a congressman is in the pocket of some insurance company. we gotta better than that.
