As a filmmaker I can tell you that we usually don't give half a shit about the intricacies of things like that. You can't have a consultant for every pointless detail in a film. We do what looks and sounds good. Also it's kind of fun to piss off people on the internet who care too much.

Unless you want to make that "hot and bothered" I am not interested. I mean, seriously, why bother. Which, in essence, sums up all Jeff's threads.

We have a guy like Jeff at work. We nicknamed him Highlander, because he's about 500 years old for all the shit that he's done in his life time!!!

DO NOT slam the door of a safe or spin the dial. If the dial is turning, make sure your hand is stil on it. Spininng the dial and slamming the door are the two things that cause combo dials to malfunction more than any other causes. They weren't meant to have those things done to them. They're actually rather fragile, and meant to break if someone exerts force on it if they try to, well, force their way in by hammering or pounding on the dial. They will break, by design, in a way that causes even the proper combination to stop working, making surreptitious entry even more difficult, and some locksmith like me rich. The safe itself is designed to be tough, the combo dial fragile.

Not one of them. They are silent. Sargent and Greenleaf, the premier maker of all safe and vault combination locks that you see on every safe outside of those piece-of-shit stash boxes you see at the hardware store, does not make one that clicks like that. They make some that make some kind of quioet internal noise which can make manipulation attacks (safe cracking) more difficult by disgusing the sounds of the iunner workings of the lock (which you can tell a LOT from, by the way) and they make a safe lock that has plastic combination rings so it can't be X-rayed while closed in an effort to figure out the combo. Plastic rings do not show up on an X-ray. Some of the technology that goes into safes to thwart surreptitious entry into them is amazing. But the locks on them do not click. Thank you.

Wow, if that's the only thing you can find wrong with movies or tv it must be nice

What films have you made? I'll be sure and not waste my time. I'm all for suspension of belief ... but things that defy common sense just blow me away. There are way too many stupid film makers out there.
