What do you prefer?Manual or automatic transmission?

I got three in the tree (column shift) 1960 plymouth... everything else needs to be auto. C'mon, how much more do you want to get out of an engine that a computer controlled transmission doesn't deliver? I suppose it's great in a twin turbo 911 but a toyota corolla? What's the difference between 0-60 mph in 13.8sec and 13.4sec? All that and a missed gear on a wet mountain road to ruin your day.

Oh yeah, you can't fingerbang your girl in traffic if you are shfting gears... what about the 1960 plymouth? I get head.

I prefer someone to drive mé !

But otherwise, a manual.

Automatic transmission is waste of fuel.

Except those new Audi thingies.

But it depends on the car, of course. An M5 with grannymatic would be ridicilous, and so would Mercedes S600 with stick.

I do like borrowing my mother's BMW 325CiA even though it has automatic transmission. I have driven the manual version, too, and liked it a lot more.

automatic tranny's are not gonna downshift for you.. :P

That brought back some memories... of a burned clutch after a night cruising around town with my first girlfriend in a stick shift car many years ago. Left the stick in second gear because my right hand was... shall we say otherwise occupied at the time. She seemed to enjoy the ride a whole lot, though. :P

To answer the original question : I'm happy with both but would definitely prefer automatic for stop and go traffic. Both for the abovementioned reason and also because I am lazy. But for any kind of enthusiastic driving stick is the way to go.

yean..lazy driver so i prefer auto, but manual is more fun to drive and def looks cooler!

I hate automatic transmission 110%. I prefer manual, I love to handle gears myself.

i like power delivery....you get in manual byt i like semi auto e.g tiptontic best both worlds....

you just cant afford the $$$ in europe to pump all that transmission fluid around. When you pay squat for the gas who cares. But i dont expect to pay for a car AND have to shift gears. 4x4 farm pickup is always better as stick, more control over your traction and most of the time you are working too hard and/or low speed and the oil can get too hot.

I drive a '71 Chevelle SS. It's got a big block that I just built, with some really nice Brodix aluminum heads, etc. 4.10posi rear and all...it's a blast with my manual, that's for sure, I love rowing through the gears with it.

my car is a stick, and i wouldnt have it any other way. my brother recently switched from a manual to an automatic, and he hates it. traffic really isnt that bad if you know how to drive, i think its still pretty fun, but once you break away from the traffic, its 100x better. automatic transmissions can downshift for you... also, ive never heard anthing good about triptonics, one friend has a tiburon and another has a audi a4 and the both say if you rev too high it will change gears for you and automatically go into 3rd. my car wastes them every time anyway

I thirded that...

i like it best when i have an automatic with cruise control and the road is really really worn down so i dont even have to hold the wheel

but most of the time manuals PWN!!

manual is better in a sports car but for daily driving and stuff i prefer auto.
