Good to hear about Dinan. When the time comes I'll have to look into their parts. Here's a cool drifting video from e46fanatics.com. http://www.8200rpm.com/stuffvids/vkd_8200rpm_driftdays_papenburg2004.wmv

Sweetner! what a coincidence, yea i pulled that from the e46fanatics board. I'm not really that keen to drifting but what was up with the sporadic turning on of some of the cars lights? My guess was they were accidently hitting the turn signal arms while whipping the steering wheel around. Drifting is pretty ill. Wish i had the skills and a rwd car to play around with. I heard fwd drifting is possible but odd in how to do it.

The high beam flash is a way of showing off. It's a total look at me, I'm holding a drift angle and I still have the poise and control to take a hand off the wheel to tap the brights. In the E34 (older boxier 5 series) the left turn signal comes on with the brights, which is a function of a worn out turn signal stock. Almost all old E34's I have driven do that when you get the brights, and even the E34 M5 in Ronin did. It takes a lot of practice to be able to do that, and my meager skills have waned. I need to borrow my buds Z when it comes out...hehehe
You can "drift" a fwd, but it is a contradiction in terms. Drifting means holding the tail out, usually with throttle. I can oversteer easily in most fwd's, but holding the thing in a drift is tricky. In my GTI and in my Jetta, just overcook it into a corner, flick it, left foot brake it, and get off the gas. The momentum of throwing the car around will cause it to oversteer, and if you arent overly aggressive with the countersteering you can hold the tail out for a little bit. But IMHO, that is different from holding a drift angle with balanced throttle and steering inputs. One is the car is oversteering so you dont correct it (ie FWD) and the other is the car is oversteering, and you are in control of how deep, what speed, and most importantly, how long the dirft will be (RWD). In a fwd it is hard to keep the back stuck out around an entire corner, but it can be done depending on the car and driver. I just think it is way different from drifting, as almost any throttle application in a FWD will cause the car to staighten out, which is quite the opposite of a RWD.
BTW, catch the great sound of the M3CSL in that vid? He drifts close to the camera a few times, and it sounds glorious.

The making of an E46... Pretty cool video a friend recommended to me.

btw, I was thinking about settling for a 99 Orient Blue automatic the other day. My salesman called me up to check it out but before I left my house he called back saying it was being processed for someone else.
I'm getting really anxious for my next ride!

My first car was a BMW 93 318 is. It wasn't the fastest car. But it had 144k miles on it, and it ran like it was brand new. The engine ran perfectly, still had get up and go for an old car. The only thing that went bad was the head gasket, which seems to happen a lot with older BMW's. It just goes to show if you take care of a BMW, it will last a long time and you will have more fun with it.

Got a 316i Compact "Schnitzer"! It wasn't a fast car.... yeah it really wasn't because the engine is blowed up by me last week.... *sniff*

Dont understand all this crazyness about that brand.(BMW that is).
Am I missing something here? My neighbor bought this car. I think it was a 325. But it turned out to have only two doors. How unpractical isnt that? Anyway because of this car, he drove so fast that he lost his drivers licens.
But it was a nice car though.

How stupid are u to buy a car with 2 doors and finding that out AFTER you bought it...

I love the making of the E46 vid. Very impressive how that car comes together, and with such care. My fav was the paint booth, where the robot opens and closes the door so it can paint all sides of it.
328 auto? Yuck, wait for a good 5 spd to come your way. Autos water down BMW's terribly, and it makes it harder to balance the chassis with the throttle when you are mid corner.
Andy- if you want to know what all the fuss is about, go testdrive a 330ci 6spd, and go rip some corners hard in it. It will make sense then.

Stick to your three Chevelle threads please. Your comments are groundless and ignorant.

-------------------------------------------------------------leave this thread alone. I dont flame you on your 3 chevelle threads, so stop wasting space on this one. Some people have productive things to say about cars in this thread, so if you care to, start a thread about how you hate BMW's and explain yourself there. Please man, stop acting like a 10 yearold, and post somewhere else.
Sorry to be so vulgar Phenom, but this is just nuts.

whatever man. i agree, don't like bmw's start ONE thread about it. that's not sucking up thats obeying forum rules. We don't ask for much here, and we provide alot. so if you can't do so much then troll around some other board.

Havent said too much here for a little bit. What's going on Phenom? Hope all is well and all that shit. MandysMan's car is out of action as there is a bent rear end link causing mad positive camber on the right rear, which makes most left hand corners a drift exersize. Any luck finding a good E46 for you?
phenom... 21 years ago
Actually, still looking. Haven't found "the" one yet. Looked over a few but decided to hold off due to minor things like int. color. There are too many automatics out there! Also considering the e36 m3 more also. Sorry to hear about Mandysmans car, how'd the rear end link get bent anyway?
BarryMcCockiner 21 years ago
Good luck finding the right one, but in time you will. E36 M3's are great cars, just remember to find one that hasnt been beat to little pieces. E36's can be expensive when they are beaten apart (rear subframe is known to tear apart at the suspension mounting points...expensive indeed).
I dont know what caused the problem on MandysMans car. He said it always had positive camber from when he bought it, and i guess it has slowly been bending more. He bought a new arm on ebay, so we'll throw it on, and it shouldnt take more than 30 minutes to do so. Just pretty funny to have turned a great little E36 into a drift machine for a few days, but he played it safe and didnt go too nutty.
Well dude, good luck finding the right one for you, and as always, if you have any questions feel free to hit me up. Later

Thanks Bar. I've been really picky since starting my search. Mileage is a big concern as well as condition. I'll keep that rear subfram info in mind about the m3. In regard to that; where is the first place i should look to check for that damage or sign that it's beginning to happen?
Sounds like you guys had fun with mandyman's car. lol.
No doubt I'll hit up Bar. I appreciate you sharing your extensive knowledge of the brand, you'll probably be one of the deciding factors when I find one I'm really interested in buying. That is if you don't mind me coming back from looking at one, then writing an extensive report on it accompanied with digi pics for your evaluation!
