How to tag

I noticed I cannot tag images. Is there a button I am missing?

Only certain people can tag images, it's not available to everyone.

The only reason I can think of it being taken away from the masses was because people would tag incorrectly either through supidity or in order to gain credits. This kinda rendered the tag feature useless. I think if you want to become a regular tagger you can contact Omuh.

jhope1 is right on both point.
According to Diz who decided to change the system with the new version, there were too many mistakes when everyone could tag.

Strangely enough, there are now more tags added on a daily basis than before and way less mistakes.
It doesn't mean this system is perfect though as we could have something like : tag rights automatically added after a certain amount of activity and if someone make too much mistakes we can now identify him and tell him (with the option to remove right if necessary). It would be a better system I think but again, I'm not the one doing it ^^

Because only a few % of all uploaded pictures are tagged. Only these pictures that are interesting to person that can tag them. Rest is invisible to tag sorting in top of the page (http://whatboyswant.com/tagger/tags/tagsearch) and all of us, who are looking for some good material cannot sees them. Now you know why it is stupid?

Yeah I get what you're saying. Like Omuh has said already, the last time it was a free-for-all, people would tag pictures with labels that had nothing to do with the image in question, so even if you searched for, say, 'legs' you would find lots of face-only photos. It's difficult to get it right but I think the solution written above would be a good idea.

IMO more users should tag pictures. I can be volunteer, I'm old user and I'm here daily for few hours

Right, and that's fair and all that and only a relatively small percentage of all uploaded pics have been tagged (I don't know what it's at right now), but there are still problems with having everyone able to tag. Would a tag get added after just one person adds a tag? Which would cause obvious problems. Or would a tag need to be added by XX number of separate users to get approved? I believe that was how it was before. Either way, you still end up with contradictory and/or inaccurate tags, a problem that is largely fixed with a smaller group of permanent taggers. A site with a tag search feature when the tags are inaccurate isn't only slightly better than having no tags at all, in my opinion.

But I think we could use more taggers. There are a ton of tags getting added, but we still don't keep up with the amount of content added.

I don't fully agree with omuh's reply ....

There weren't that many mistakes prior to when it was taken away (at the release of the latest version) as there had to be a number of people tag that tag before it went permanent on a pic which was 10 at one stage. This also turned a number of people away. Instead of just reducing it to 3 or 4 people, it was just taking away altogether and given to a select few.

There is about 1.5 million pics on this site and 20 or so people that have currently got the tag rights are never going to be able to do it. It should be open it to everyone.

We try to encourage more participation from people in this site but we take away ways for people to do it. Seems stupid to me.

Also looking at the stats omuh there isn't much of a difference between the tagging numbers from the changes to now. There are a few more active members but they aren't going to get through 1.5 million pics themselves.

I have been correcting and removing tags for pages and pages of specific tags before this system because people kept making mistakes. Yes, the fact that you had to have several people add the same tag for it to be added was a way to avoid random tagging but common mistakes shared by several users still made it through (there are still mistakes now, don't get me wrong, but they are easy de spot and to correct with the concerned tagger).

I agree, we need more taggers and that's why I'm trying to add more on a regular basis.
We do get more tag added now though. In the old version, I was pretty much the only one with EL tagging pics regularly (at one point, I didn't bother to use the tag search anymore for new pics because I was sure to only find pictures that I tagged myself and thus already saw). Now, it's clearly different as the taggers can directly add tags without waiting for more user to put the same ones.

I also agree with you that tagging should be opened for more people by default but that's something I can't do much about. But that's why I suggested a new system in my previous post that would allow people to tag as soon as they get active on the site and as we can now see who tagged what, we could still remove their tag right if they mess around too much.

Well,we all have right on opinion,and my is "that is stupid..." ,so that lead to that i'm gonna stop upload my photos,if i'm not able to tag them by my self.Sorry for that.Peace.

An opinion would have been something like "I think this is stupid because..." or even better "I don't like it because...". What you posted first was a statement based on nothing.

So now you're going to stop uploading because someone pointed out that what you said wasn't constructive instead of, let's say, ask to become a tagger ? Sounds immature to me but, that's your choice...

No,i will stop upload because i can't tag my own photos,as i said/write already.Simple like that.
