I was there during the Beatles craze in America. I was a bit young but still played the Beatles records over and over. I don't think America has seen anything like the wide spread adoration following they had. I remember it was like Elvis and the Beetles were competing. The Beetles attracted a widespread age group. From 5 years old on up. Still, it has come to light since then that some individual Beetles were not all that talented. Some may have improved as time went on. In person, people screamed so loud you couldn't hear the music anyway

Here is a Beetles song I used to play a lot when I was a kid. Still plays in my mind when memory of the beetles is brought up Very simple lyrics. Not like singing the Star Spangled Banner:

THE BEATLES LYRICS
"Help!"

Help, I need somebody
Help, not just anybody
Help, you know I need someone, help

When I was younger (So much younger than) so much younger than today
(I never needed) I never needed anybody's help in any way
(Now) But now these days are gone (These days are gone), I'm not so self assured
(I know I've found) Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me

(Now) And now my life has changed in oh so many ways
(My independence) My independence seems to vanish in the haze
(But) But every now (Every now and then) and then I feel so insecure
(I know that I) I know that I just need you like I've never done before

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me

When I was younger so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way
(But) But now these days are gone (These days are gone), I'm not so self assured
(I know I've found) Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me, get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, ooh

I think the Beatles were just brought up as an example of musicians that began their careers appealing predominantly to a very young crowd, but then remained popular as their music evolved and grew so as not to become dated and "lame" in the eye of their faithful. I didn't realize their music was primarily for a much younger crowd when they started, but then, I've never been a very big Beatles fan.

Regardless, I think there are very few musicians who became popular while teens making music that appealed predominantly to other teens and pre-teens, but then truly evolved to stay relevant in the industry as adults. MC isn't there yet. Right now, she has a couple songs on the pop radio channels and continues to grab headlines for being absurd. Kind of like a watered-down lady gaga.

The Beatles have nothing in common with Miley Cyrus. She became famous for lip synching on a children's television show. She got that gig from her dad being a pseudo-country musician. Pretty much every single band in history was formed when the members were teens. Some get popular at an earlier age but I don't think the Beatles big break came because John Lennon's dad got them a gig on an English children's television show.

Time have maybe change with how artists get "discovered", but it may or may not change how they are perceived in the future. There is no saying that Miley couldn't go on to write her own music, perform her own music, and have some of the most influential songs of the century. Lets not forget, the first Beatles songs were not exactly considered "genius" at the time.

There was a time, recently, that Britney Spears was the most popular musician in the world. Did you know that she recently released a new album? Because most of America either doesn't know or doesn't care. Madonna is the extreme rare example of the marginally talented pop star who's career has spanned multiple decades.

Yeah, she also signed a multi million dollar deal for 48 shows in Vegas, that tickets are next to impossible to get.

Britney Spears is just a money-making machine. I remember a few years ago when she didn't have her Vegas show yet, didn't put out a new album, and wasn't on tour, she still was one of the highest earning women in the business.

I don't remember how much she made, but I'm pretty sure it was still into the tens of millions of dollars. Not that that means she's a "good" artist, but it has to mean something.

Elvis sold a lot of tickets in Vegas too. When he was old, fat and way past his prime. Also, she's playing a 4,000 seat "arena" A big drop off from her 20,000+ seat arena heyday. In fairness, she's keeping pace with Celine Dion. Her most recent album is the lowest selling of her career (I'll admit a bad selling Britney album is still great numbers for most bands).

All I'm saying is: In twenty, thirty, forty years, will people still be crazy about Miley? Possibly. Hell, she might surpass Madonna. It's just that history says otherwise. Most big time pop acts fizzle out and get forgotten. Even Michael Jackson, the biggest pop star ever, had a few duds at the end of his career.

This is all an unrealistically high standard. I don't think people are wondering if she'll reach icon status, but more so if she can successfully make a sustained showing as a musician that interests grown ups, instead of just the teeny-boppers.

Miley Cyrus NET worth is estimated between $120-150 million.

This article calls Miley and Justin--"marketing geniuses"

Starting with new hairdos, Bieber and Cyrus are indeed deliberately crafting edgier images to meet the evolving needs of their target audiences.

Miley Cyrus is estimated to have a net worth between $120 and $150 million whereas Justin Bieber’s net worth is pegged at around $130 million.

I am more inclined to believe the people who market them are the geniuses. After all KISS showed the music industry how to market mediocre music with a flashy presentation.

I'm inclined it's more happenstance than it is any sort of intentional marketing ploy. These are two kids who, by all accounts, are dazzlingly stupid. Yes, they've amassed fortunes, but Cyrus had a lot of help getting started, in that she created a large following through her Hannah Montana TV show, which itself was a byproduct of her father's music career. She then used that success to transition into a music career. Beiber's ascent to fame was more merit-based (apparently he taught himself how to play a number of different instruments), as he was found by a talent scout just watching youtube videos.

Anyway, massive financial success of some tiny number of entertainers is nearly inevitable. But it didn't have to be them specifically. The point is that somebody always comes along to capture the cultural zeitgeist. At any given moment there are hundreds, if not thousands, of marginally successful aspiring musicians. There will always be some small handful that are able to connect with their audience better than the others and are therefore able to reap the financial rewards of such, but that doesn't necessarily imply that those artists were smarter or more savvy than the artists who didn't find that same level of success.

It's just as likely that as these two kids started to age and rebel against authority on their own, without any kind of intelligent guidance about honing their image in any particular way, and that resonated with their audiences who were doing the same thing at similar ages.

Also, net worth is a poor judge of artistic success or intelligence or whatever. Jessica Simpson is worth something like a billion dollars after releasing only 7 albums. and none since 2010.

She is a SKANK...she should have stayed @ Disney!

She might be rich, but she'll be in re-hab like the rest of them within a year....then she'll be broke; living off her dead-beat dad's broken down country music career.

So in other words she will pull an Ed McMahon and then Donald Trump will have to come in and bail here out.
